As stated above, it uses the same antenna as the Pro-73, so it performs very similarly (if not the same) as the Pro73. I can attest to this since my previous RD was a Pro-73. I notice very little change. And, since I mounted mine behind the RV mirror, it performs IDENTICAL to my windshield mounted Pro-73. I have not had laser hits yet, but I used to only get about 1 every 3 weeks with my Pro-73, so it could be a while before I find a local LEO with laser.

My thoughts on this (and the Pro-73), I think these work REALLY well for short distances (translate city), but I think if you're cooking on the highway, you want a long range RD. I'm really thinking about saving up for the V1 plus the remote head, which I will probably mount right next to this one (body next to body and head next to head), and turn on the 3450 while running the back roads and in the city; then turn off the 3450 and turn on the V1 when on the wide open highway. From what I've seen the only negative about the V1 is that it's SO sensitive that it "falses" in the city (too many signals), which is why I think it would be good to have 2 options. And since the 3450 is remote, it's an AWESOME "slow road" option.

Now, for the good stuff; from what I've experienced so far, I have been alerted to a stationary threat that was about 2 miles in front of me on a wide open highway, but when you throw hills/curves, I usually get about .5 miles alert. I only do 5/10 over, so .5 miles is sufficient for me in almost all instances.

I will see if I can get some live videos (speed signs) to post... if I'm coordinated enough to hold the camera while driving

Side note: I sure would like to see Escort come up with a remote head option similar to the V1.

There's a probe connected with a 10'(?) cord to the radar receiver. When/if you mount the radar receiver behind the grill, as the instruction suggest, this probe can be easily mounted anywhere that receives fresh air. Originally, when my radar antenna was behind my grill, I had the probe down low with my (black) valance, so it was concealed quiet well. However, when I moved my antenna inside my cab, 10' was not enough, so I went to a local (Fry's) store and purchased some 26 gauge wire to lengthen my probe's reach. I now have it mounted a little higher around my grill area. Keep in mind; when you stop, no matter where you place the probe, it will run a little hotter due to pavement temps; when you start moving, as long as it's "open" to the fresh air, it will give you a more accurate reading. In reality, if you use the 26 gauge wire to lengthen the probe, you can place it just about anywhere on your vehicle.


note: cutting this wire may void your warranty, so be sure it's what you want to do. AND be sure to test your RD BEFORE you cut the wire. I actually let my probe hand loose inside my cab for about a week while I tested the RD... it was fun putting it in the air vents; 105 outside and my temp read 59

I don't like the suction-cup, but it can be easily dismissed as a cell antenna.
Is there any way to mount the laser sensor near the temp probe ?

While we would agree that 'detecting' LIDAR is usually only advanced warning of being pulled-over, a lower mounting will help prevent you from being LIDAR'd and getting absolutely NO ALERT. I have a high-mounted V-1 and it does happen. A lower mount will also give you fewer LIDAR falses

I've since moved it over and used the clear double sided tape and removed the suction cup. As for location, I would like to mount it lower in the window, but then there would be a cord hanging (again). It's not waterproof (so says Whistler), so it must remain inside the vehicle. I've though about placing it in the middle of the window about 4 inches up from the dash. Only problem then, if LEO pulls me over, they might question it and/or know what it is. As it is now, from the driver's window, an LEO would see NOTHING.

Another thought; you can actually use laser sensors with this unit. They are supposed to be front and back, but I don't find rear to be a major issue, so I could mount one semi-close to the driver's side piller (about 1/3 of the way up from dash) and the other close the passenger side piller (same height). This would conceal them pretty well next to the pillers, while still giving me ultimate protection from both sides.

Unless I'm driving over the LEO, won't the beam be coming at an angle? And, until they hit their mark, they will scatter for a moment at an angle... right? So, if I put a sensor at each beam, I would catch the angle from the left side of the road or the right side of the road.
