I'm currently using my STI-R and it's great, sometimes I run my 695 or 9960G with it for testing purposes. Both detectors seem to fair well. The Cobra seems to do better on constant on than the Whistler XTR-695 but the Cobra isn't quite as good at picking up instant on as either detector.

Using Escort, sometimes I will use Beltronics, and I would really like to try out the V1 one of these days

I jumped to V1 a long time ago. Went through 3 Bels over the years and they all worked well in the beginning but after a year or two started acting up giving me problems. I don't trust the Bel/Escort long term reliability. V1 has had no issues going on 3 yrs now.
