Default New way for police to detect radar detectors?

I recently heard that some police in Canada use their radar guns to detect radar detectors by aiming the radar detector at you and if their radar gun (where the speed is show) goes blank for about a second, that mean's you have a radar detector on board.

Has anyone else ever heard this?

Only works if it is a RMR

You probably want to do a search for Spectre, it works exactly like a radar detector for detectors.

LIDAR guns won't display a speed if they're being jammed, and some may provide a jam code to alert the officer.

Only thing I can think of is maybe they're thinking about laser jammers, which would cause the gun to give no reading until either punchthrough or the jammer was disengaged (depending on the jammer).

If this were true I wouldn't have a detector anymore. It's pure nonsense. Some police in 3-4 provinces have Spectre RDDs that can detect non-stealth detectors. Beltronics STi cannot be detected.

Do legal states run RDD's or is that a waste of time? I'm guessing that VA runs them.

I had a nice copper pull up beside me in DC and kindly inform me that my RD was not to be used in the District. I pulled it down and thanked the man.. back then I had no idea.

Yes, primarily for truck enforcement, occasionally used against RD users to time radar shots. Theory being RD users speed so keep the radar of funtil one is there and hit them, and you'll be writing bigger tickets. Pretty much just a concern in TX, but not unheard of around the country, and still a rare tactic in general.

I detect them when the front of the car digs into the pavement as the driver slams on his brakes......
