Default Week of the obsolete RDs

Interesting phenomenon in the last couple days:

A friend recently got a newer vehicle, and while checking it out, I noticed a cord hanging down from the mirror. I take a look inside and see a Uniden RD-22 clipped to the visor.
    Looked like this one:

I asked him about it, and apparently he "rarely uses it because if he uses his cell phone while it's on, the radar detector causes the other party on the call to hear loud buzzing". That RD is so leaky it's causing interference on a cell phone!

Then yesterday, I was walking out to my car and I notice an odd box on the dash of another vehicle. Took a glance as I walked past the side, and it turns out to be a Maxon RD-1.

Then just today, I walk outside and notice another car in the parking lot with an Escort 4500 on the window.

People around here could really use some upgrades, at this rate I should spot an original Escort by the end of the week!

I stole one of those when I was a teenager...I was a bad kid.

I was the kid with a BB gun and an automatic center punch that would leave shattered glass on your seat and make you sad. Thank God those days are behind me.

It would have happened from the mid to late 1980s so that detector is 25+ years old.

    Naughty kid! :-)

I didn't see it on Jim's museum page, but I knew it had to be old. They still use X-Band and K-Band here in Kentucky, so it could still help out now and then I guess.

I knew more about radar detectors when I was a teenager than most adults do now. I knew that the tiny Passports and huge Escorts were the best when I would try out all of detectors after I "acquired" them.
