Alberta (Canada) retailers that carry Escort?

Does anyone know of any retailers that STOCK the Escort 9500ix in Alberta, Canada? I'm debating getting one before our road trip back to BC next weekend, since my RX65 died and obviously won't get fixed in time. I'm also impatient :-)

Radar detectors don't seem to be very "big" up here, am I mistaken? None of the places that are listed as Escort dealers/installers even mention RD's on their websites. I will call around tomorrow during business hours, but figured I'd post here in case someone may know where I might find one at a good price before the weekend :-)

I'll drive up to Edmonton or down to Lethbridge if I have to - I'm in Calgary myself.

Really? The Canadian website for BB and FS don't show any detectors! I guess maybe because only 3 provinces are legal so they don't bother posting them online?

I'm in Edmonton. Pick one up online, the selection at retailers here is dismal and over priced even if you find something. If you're concerned about spectre (radar detector detector while traveling through BC) and have a higher budget, I'd recommend the Red Line over the X50. You can have Escort priority ship it, depending on your time frame. If you need something right away you may compromise for ridiculous retail prices here in Edmonton. I've seen X50's advertised as high as $500, although most would be around the $399 - $450 mark.

If you're really pressed for time, try JB's power center, they're really the only ones with quality detectors. Best Buy I believe has the 9500i, but not much more.

Its the 9500ix I'm after, not the X50.

Radar detectors are legal in BC so don't need a RedLine out there :-) Dont need a RedLine until you are in Manitoba or east, or in the Territories.

But I wouldn't want to risk getting caught with one anyway. All I need is to get caught in a Ride Stop and have a cop notice a detector! I drive slow in moose country anyway and there's only one province between legal detectors and moose country :-)

I've been offered the 9500ix by a place in Calgary or $599 out the door and a place in Edmonton for $579 + GST, so given they are $499 + shipping + duty from the states, that's not too bad of a premium to get it locally!

Only sucky thing is the $966 I paid yesterday for a weight distributing hitch, brake controller and fixing trailer brakes on our new horse trailer, so won't be able to afford a 9500ix till end of June! Oh well. Such is life. I'll send m RX65 in for service. Gotta go slow in mountains with horses anyway so not a huge deal :-)

EDIT: As a side note. BestBuy Calgary only carry Cobra. FutureShop want $699 for the 9500ix ha ha ha.

I saw one at Future Shop in Calgary, last summer, but the price was outrageous. Like $200 more than the price on Roy's website.

When I ordered from Roy, it came in 3 days. Maybe he could even expedite it, and you'd still be way ahead.

EDIT: OOp, didn't see that you already discovered that. Pretty bad. Oh, and the salesman was telling me that the ix model jams laser and radar. I said "you're kidding me, right?" and he assured me. Jams both laser and radar.

I'm pretty sure best buy has them in some stores, but they don't offer them online for their Canadian website because of them being illegal in most Canada Providences. If you don't mind ordering one online shoot me a PM and I might be able to help you out with a Canadian order.
