Thanks again. I'm convinced that both the current Escort offerings and the V-1 are good for the intended purpose of alerting motorists of the whereabouts of the "(wo)men in blue" in case we need to consult with them. <g> I'm familiar with the V-1 as I own two units, one of them for about 15 years. Prior to getting my first V-1, I had a (very large) original Escort, followed by a Passport and even a Solo, though I hate to admit it. For my purposes the V-1 appears to be a (comparative) bargain, price wise, as I see no Escort advantage. I'm willing to be convinced otherwise. Frankly, until I started this investigative exercise, I had more or less convince myself to buy a third detector.

thats all you need to do with the escort as well. it just has so many features in order to get the most out of it it would be best to rtfm. just like with any nice piece of technology. but its not a necessity.

[The arrow patent has to do with the direction of radar, not just the use of arrows for any purpose. If a RD points to the direction of radar thats patent infringement, if it points to the closest RLC that's different.
That's the way I understand it.

ill be working on getting mine to say KA rear with that nice womanly voice on the 9500.

    or better yet, my name.

see escort? thats a selling point right there. you guys have to get creative.

also, might I add the sales rep lied to me when i called to get the 3 yr database. I specifically bought it for a trip this weekend and made that perfectly clear. She said no problem whatsoever.

Yet after running my card, I contacted them wondering where my confirmation or subscription code was. I was then was informed it takes a few days to produce this key.

Therefore no update for RLCs or SCs.

    pretty shady there.

Is there any reason when ordering the database subscription online it charges you 5 dollars s&h? theres nothing needed through the mail and is done online.

also the 9500ix I have has 19 serial so I am forced to pay $40 more + s&h to have tsr enabled even though the same latter models come with it.

Thats pretty outrageous given its a $500 detector to begin with imo.

I ended up getting both because I knew if I get one, I'd keep thinking about the other to much.
I use the 9500ix for when romping around in town and the V1 for open road out of town, which I have an hour or so of highway to get to work.
I really couldn't make up my mind. Anyway I like both and have no regrets getting both. Now if they could marry the best features of both into one unit, then I'd probably be happy with the one.
I find it interesting it uses arrows on your marked locations. I thought that there were no arrows at all due to patent rights.

Also theres many other ways escort could make it directional. Have a sonar type 360 degree display and show a blip where its located. if they dont want to redesign the unit then incorporate it in the smartcord display.

just weird they have yet to counter one of the biggest attributes to the V1.
I recall that $5 s&h but I don't think it gets on the charges once processed.

Mine also has a serial starting with 19. But just recently I went ahead and installed the new version of Detector Tools, then besides the weekly update, I did the firmware update also. Used to be on one of my regular routes, I would get a RLC alert off to the side every time at this one spot. It displayed an arrow to the right indicating the RLC direction & distance. Since I did those recent updates, it no longer gives the RLC alert off the side at that spot. I have to take that right and see it's reaction when actually going through that RLC. Anyway, the annoyance is no longer there going by a RLC instead of actually going through it. Seems a good improvement to me.

VR does not have a patent on the arrows, per se. The arrows are just VR's way of providing the directional information to the V1 user. I'm paraphrasing here, but the patent is for "two or more radar antennas inside a single casing for directional purposes". So, the competition would have to figure out a way to determine direction, using a single radar antenna. Um, good luck with that.

What if the 2nd antenna is in a different case?

Kinda like duct taping two escort RL's together, head to toe.

This looks like a Rube Goldberg solution to me, "What if the 2nd antenna is in a different case?" Buying a V-1 seems like a better solution since it also points to the sides and in most instances has greater range. It doesn't hurt (me) that the V-1 with superior customer service costs $10 less!

I understand that, I meant if someone wanted to circumvent the patent. They might be able to piggy back multiple antennas onto a main unit w/o violating the patent.
