Default My STi-R got a buddy: V1 3.813 Initial Impressions

lIve got to give some background first. I drive mainly in VA and PA. In my local area I run into mainly moving CO K band and some CO 35.5, when I go into town CO 35.5 is my biggest threat. Driving back up to college in PA Ive got to deal with pesky PSP and their new low powered Falcon HR K band guns which mainly get used in IO.

Myself and Escort have [b]thoroughly[\b] tested my STi-R and I understand all of its strengths and weaknesses. When compared to other M3s its sensitivity on K band is slightly reduced and its reactivity is 100% only after 500ms. It is very hot on Ka band especially 35.5. To give you an idea Ive never had a line of sight 35.5 encounter. These attributes suite me very well in VA, however I wanted to supplement my K band detection while in PA since Ka band is hardly ever used.

I decided to try adding a V1 3.813 freshly tuned up by VR, which I purchased from a good friend. (radarrob) Ive driven with the V1 in VA since Friday including a 3 hour trip down 29. Im holding off making a decision on to keep or sell until Ive gone through PA a bit and done some testing with Radarrob whose getting one of those falcons soon.

    Initial Impressions:
Ive had a few encounters with K band and 35.5 so far.
K Band: Sensitivity seems to be slightly higher on the V1. Im not sure if this is due to placement on top of the windsheild or just sensitivy of the unit. Maybe its interference from the V1, further testing will tell. On most encounters the V1 alerts about half a second before the STi-R, but on a few the V1 has caught a small blip of K a few seconds before both detectors go to constant alert. Im hoping those little blips are going to help me with the IO K in PA.

35.5 Ka: The STi-R wins big here which I expected. I was surprised by the extent od the difference, since Ive been running the V1 with Ka Guard off I figured it would do alittle better than what Ive seen but Ive only had about 3 35.5 encounters. I guess I live out in the sticks because Ive only had one Ka false with the guard off, unless the 3.813 falses less or something.

Tonight Ill be driving around with the STi-R, V1, my cousins STi Driver, and my other cousins new Whistler 78 SE. ( not all on at the same time obviously ) should be an interesting evening.

I've noticed the same things with my 3.813 and 9500ci.

No clue. I'll have to go looking for my serial card.

Can't find it. I put it in the 9500ci box that everything came with. I may have to call Escort.

BTW why did you decide to get a 3.813? Running it with the Sti-r will ruin your perfect QT Ka performance.

In PA its 99.9% IO K band, so degrading my Ka QT response isnt really an issue. Ill probably not run the V1 in VA regularly, just doing it now to size up the V1.

Well, you'll have to really "baby" it. That means taking it down when you are parked somewhere for more than ten minutes or taking it inside the house if it's too hot outside. For some reason, my 3.813 likes to "run cold" so I make sure to always point an air vent at it when it's hot outside.
