    To me it's about layers of protection. So I buy the best that I can afford. Plus I also like my gadgets.

    Hard to believe how much we can spend on counter measures! $2k for LI high power quad jammers (full size truck) $900 for the RDs, $100 for Veil, I've researched scanners and would like an Icom IC-R20 at aprox $600, I don't even know what a CB goes for or if I want one. Heck, I could be out a REAL NICE sound system or nicely built tranny! Wish I travelled more and could justify it. RD for now for a while (well I'd like some Veil G4 if I could get a couple seconds warning of lidar). Yeah it's a game, but it's also about reducing the pain!

    Few here have spent more on countermeasures than I have, and they have easily paid for themselves many times over.

    But mostly at this point it's a game.

    That's not really a fair comparison though. Your 1st countermeasure was the Bronze armor you wore back in your days as a young man in the Roman Empire. You old fart.

    Like said in prior post, a lot of people on here speed on a regular basis and they have their reasons. For me, personally, I bought a brand new cobalt in the winter of 2007. Heading into the winter of 2010 I now have 65,000 miles on my car. Do the math and that's 21,666 miles per year, which is a lot of driving. So, for me an expensive RD like my V1 and a top of the line jammer like an LI is worth every penny since I spend so much time on the road and my DL is my life. Sure, the option to not speed is always there, but when you do as much driving as I do, which I'm sure other here do, then every second is worth it.

    http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com...ingTicket.aspx

    "Let's say you're an experienced driver in California with a single-car policy and a good driving record, paying average rates statewide for liability, collision and comprehensive insurance coverage. That's about $920 annually. If you were an Allstate customer, you'd get a 20% good-driver discount and pay only $736. One speeding ticket would bring that to $1,129 annually, Allstate says.

    Get a second minor ticket and you'd lose your good-driver discount. Your premium would rise again, to $1,479, the company says. After a third ticket, expect to pay $1,631. Over three years you would end up paying about $2,685 more than if you'd kept your nose clean. Ouch."
    This is exactly the type of math I've done, I'm still barely under 24yr old, put on 3x the national average in mileage per year (average is 12k last year I pulled 45k, I've been above 30k since High School) and have gone more than the national average in years per ticket (National Average is once every 5 years). What it does for my insurance rates alone is worth it.

    Then factor in a speeding ticket here is 4 points and you're suspended at 6 points/ year; no traffic school, points fade at 2/year. 2 tickets in 2 years means someone else is driving me unless they get beat in court.

    Then consider there's lots of cashed strapped small towns that really shouldn't need their own PD, let alone 4 full time officers, 2 new squad cars, 4 LIDAR guns, 4 accutrack stopwatches, 2 Stalker DSR2Xs, and their own "municipal traffic court" so you don't see a county judge, but rather a city judge who's also paid for by that ticket they just wrote you, and you have to pay that city judge an appeals fee, if you want to take it to county court, and even if you win there, you're still paying the city and now county court fees, even if you're acquitted. They stop and write for people being within 5MPH of the PSL.

    Then consider that driving record is a factor in my chosen career field, and when apply for positions can make the difference between two otherwise equally qualified people, and it's one of the first places management can point to as "liability risks" when looking for an excuse to downsize.

    V1= $400
    M27= $375- $425
    Install = Free

    $800 once seems reasonable vs $250 ticket and extra $400 year x 3years insurance and increased likely hood of losing the job that pays that bill as a result of one ticket.

    Though I loved this post overall, this quote is what stuck with me. That's a keeper, sigworthy!

    That is definitely the progression. You buy for protection, then realize that this stuff is very interesting. And yes, the rush of escaping an encounter unscathed. That is just sweet reward.

    There's something about New Mexico roads in the middle of nowhere that are straight for miles with no traffic and 65MPH speed limits that just makes me go WTF. There's no way I could stay the PSL and the CM's, while fun to have, are also constantly saving me $$. I've saved way more than I've invested and the saves keep racking up every single day. For someone who just drives mostly to and from work I can see how they may be used less. For people who often make cross state/country trips, though, the reward is much higher.
