Default RD & LJs - Protection or Game/Sport?

It appears a number of folks have spent thousands on RDs and LJs. A 9500ci is $2k installed, before consideration of those that use the Escort jammers in "receive only" mode and add LIs or Blinders. Some have many RDs, etc. At a minimum, a V1 and LI Dual set up is going to set you back over $1k installed.

There does not seem to be a cost/benefit. You'd have to get a LOT of tickets to outweigh the related costs.

So, is it then really a game than purely avoidance of becoming a "customer;" spending the money to outwit LEOs?

    Thoughts?

Many people speed pretty consistently on here, as for me. I have always wanted a RD and to be able to get the upper hand on the police, I do not really speed to much (I do from time to time) but knowing where the cops are before they can see you with the bonus of saving some serious hassle makes it nice lol.

I have a 9500ix and LI Dual. I don't use either anymore driving around the city. I just slowed down to no more than 10mph over PSL. Driving in inner loop Houston has plenty of traffic, crazy drivers, and cops. I just use my eyes. LOL!

Depending on how many miles you rack up a year and how intense the speed enforcers are out, many people can justify what they're buying. If you add up what your ticket costs, point/insurance premium increase over X amount of years (depending where you are and what you've done), court costs if any, lawyer costs if any, time off work (most likely), $2k can be quickly accomplished in tickets AND you have a bad driving record. Spend $2k, avoid the fuzz, the bad record and inconvenience of court sounds great to me! I don't speed much and am a safe driver but I don't want a ticket either way especially on the highway! In town I'm pretty tame not doing more than 10km over PSL and usually I do the PSL.

You got to realize that for some people on here, their DL is their life. Spending a couple grand on cm's makes a lot more sense than the costs of not having a DL. I'm here for the aspect of beating the revenue collectors.

I drive a lot and have a tenancy to speed. In other words, If I am not focused on abiding by the posted limit, I will soon be over it. These two factors mean that I have an increased exposure to the possibility of a speeding ticket. So yes, there is absolutely a practical aspect to this.

At least, that was my thinking when I started with all this stuff. I have since realized that I'm having a lot of fun learning about how to use the various countermeasures, installing them in my car, and writing about it all here. Then there are the practical aspects of being able to speed more and get caught less. This suddenly makes travel by car much more practical. This has for me, become an avid hobby. As a hobby, cost/benefit matters much less to me personally. I'm just having fun.

Then there is the rush of experiencing an actual save. It's quite a feeling, and beats the hell out of having to pay the piper every time luck puts a state trooper in your path during your travels. Again, this goes to the hobby aspect of it.

So it's a slightly expensive and really fun hobby with some very practical benefits. I suppose I could just stop speeding, but what would be the fun in that? Besides, slowing down all the way to the PSL feels a lot like a punishment. I would fail at it often, and eventually get tickets anyway. The choice is: do we have some fun and get an occasional ticket, or drive painfully slow and get an occasional ticket? Easy choice for me.

That all makes sense. Hobby is a good term for it, as well.

X2. For me it was to prevent speeding tickets. My parents have always had detectors so it was natural for me to get one too. I started with a Beltronics v955. While I was working the summer of my junior year of high school I began doing a bit of research on better detectors and began looking into laser jammers as well since it was becoming a major part of the local enforcement and I knew a detector couldn't beat it. I ended up purchasing a Beltronics STi-R and a Blinder M45. I continued working, saved that money and the next summer I worked and saved that money. Then in November I felt the need to get a Valentine One after an encounter with TX DPS running I/O as he sped up behind cars in the left lane. Then in December of my senior year I traded in my old car and bought my new car. Added the STi-R to the new car, put the V1 up and the M45 on the front. The next summer I worked again and earned enough money to replace the M45 with an LI-HP Quad and purchase a Laser Atlanta. Then just recently I purchased the Redline to do a bit of comparison between it and the V1 and the STi-R.

For me, it started as something to prevent tickets and although that still plays a major role now and has kept me speeding ticket free, I do it for fun. I enjoy purchasing new electronics and finding out how everything works. Could I get away with a V1 and a normal LI quad? Sure. But that just takes away half of the fun for me.

Using cms allow to concentrate on the road and its dangers , instead of focusing
    on the speedometer .

Cms saves a lot of stress , and everyone knows that stress is a silent killer.

Speed is like fast food , one has to learn his own limit.
