    Default Comparison

Looking into buying a new or used RD. Which are the best for my area. The county uses K band and State uses Ka. Area is some flat and also with hill and curves. I am looking at Bel 8500 and 8500X50 compared to also Bel 1955 or Bel 1965. Which would be the best and most reliable for me? ALSO, What about Whistler 78SE and the 690XRT Thank You

It looks like you bought a 8500 refurb a little over a year ago. Did it crap out already? How did it perform?

Yeah, it went out on me, thats why I'm a little gun shy on them. I live in Indiana about 60 S.W. of Indy. I did find a person who has a Bel Vector 995 for $70 and guarantees to be in mint condition and said I could try it out first and make sure I'm happy with it. Is there any difference between the Vectors that has Vector across the top and the one with 1995 in silver across the top?

Live in Spencer Indiana. How do the 995 compare to the other detectors? The 8500 lasted about 1-2 weeks, and I'm not saying that will happen to all refurb 8500, but it happen to mine, I already had a used Bel 985 before I bought the 8500 and I thought I would be upgrading a little bit, but maybe not. The 985 was a older version because it was smaller in size and all in black and it had Digital Broadband Technology on top. It was a good detector and p/u Ka and K wonderfully. It would p/u around curves and over hills with plenty of time to spare for slowing down. I was thinking I had the 985 for about over 3 yrs. Seems like it.

Is $$$$$ an issue? Why I ask, is that one always ask, "what is the standard that everybody uses in RDs?" A standard is a known winner in something. The RD that is that standard cost $399. So, is money an issue? Happy motoring.....

The ISP use a lot of moving I/O Ka 35.5. Your going to need a pretty good RD to have a fighting chance. I liked the Redline a lot against the ISP. But if you have to go with a budget RD and have already tried a 8500 refurb. I would look at one of the higher end Bel Vector Series RD's.

What does I/O stand for? Yes I am on a budget, but like I said earlier, I have found a guy who has a Vector with 1995 silver on top (don't know if thats any different than the one that has Vector 995 all across the top) thats a year old for $70. He said I could try it out and make sure all works good first. I am guessing the 995 is a pretty good RD.
