Default Evolutionary look at various Escort/Beltronics GPS designs versus photo enforcement

During the course of my Beltronics STiR+ extended road test (soon to be published), I explored the evolutionary changes/improvements to the newer firmware design and database that is incorporated into the the Escort Passport 9500ci (early design) and the Beltronics STiR+ (latest design).

These changes should also be apparent on other GPS detectors from both Beltronics and Escort models (such as the Passport 9500ix and the Beltronics GX65).

During this period, Escort and Beltronics have moved away from simple radius alerting to a more sophisticated "vector/approach" technique (ala Cheetah), but this too can come with its own set of complications.

    Enjoy.

I hated the radius method Escort used at first. The firmware update to the 9500ix that changed to a more vectored approach I like a lot better. It cut my RLC falses on the highways down by at least 50 percent. But sometimes I have noticed I get pretty close to the RLC before the 9500ix alerts sometimes.

It's still not perfect though. A locked-out Rite Aid almost 2000 feet away and detectable only when headed eastward toward it locked out a speed trailer located northward as I headed northward west of the Rite Aid, well out of the detection range of the Rite Aid.
If I'm passing you on the right, YOU are in the wrong lane!

If speed kills, how come I'm still alive?

Interesting to hear your experiences, both of you. I know the tunnel thing, turned out to be VERY tricky and I am happy that I never updated the 9500ci since I was alerted to the K-band. I could of have been with the warning just as I passed the camera, especially if I wasn't alerted to it by the 9500ci's K-band alert.

I think my vote would be to NOT lock-out or at least give me the option.

What do you guys think about that? Good idea? or not practical?
