Hello.
Today I saw some interesting thing at my local BMW forum. Guys who sells radar detectors in my country, offered a new product. It's a pretty small - they describe it as small as a matchbox and it only detects infrared beam speed cameras (it doesnt detect microwave radars).
Here is two videos of that infrared detector thingy:
1. Youtube Video 1
2. Youtube Video 2
As you can see in first video, it looks pretty simple - plug it in and it's ready for work. It started to beep almost 400 meters before speed camera.
I will translate all what he says in first video to english, so you all can understand it. English is not my native language so I'm sorry if there is any errors. So, the translation:
Hello drivers, we show you all new product, we call it ''speed camera catcher''
Its not a radar detector, this device has only one purpose - detect infrared beam which comes from new Vitronic PoliScan speed cameras.
Device is pretty simple - here you can see a small receiver, it is located at inside mirror or you can put it anywhere else at front window
It gets electricity as all other car gadgets, from cigarette lighter socket. It got two led's - one red when device gets signal, other is green, it shows when device is turned on.
So we plug in device, when you plug it on, device do test and check itself
So were are driving, and soon there will be speed camera, to demonstrate how this device works
We did 5 runs, average distance when it starts to beep is about 300 meters.
Our country now have about 20+ of Vitronic PoliScan speed cameras, and will have many more by the end of year, so that infrared beam detector looks pretty awesome.
Here is Vitronic PoliScan specification:
So, my question is: Have you guys ever heard about something like this? Is it real? Where to buy it? I'm searching everywhere on internet for about 3 hours and I can't find ANYTHING.9.2 LIDAR
