    Default Hardwire in-line coupler?

    Hey all,

I currently have a hard wire kit set up in my car. My question is, could I use a telephone in-line coupler and attach another line to it to get more length? I don't see why this approach wouldn't work but would like some input. I recently ordered a V1 and am worried that the amount of cable I have coming from the headliner won't be enough to reach it since the power jack is in a different place when compared to Belscorts. My plan is to use electrical tape, and tape the coupler to the back of the RVM so that its not dangling. Or I could wrap around the existing cord around the mount of my RVM and use a zip tie to keep it together, then attach it to a coupler.

    -Thanks

The basic Escort Hardwire adapter will power your V1 but if you ever go with the remote display you'll need to install the V1's hardwire adapter.

If you have the Escort Smartcord hardwire adapter then you will not be able to mute the V1 or change settings without switching over to the V1 coiled cord and lighter plug.

Other than that a coupler should work for you.

Thanks nine, I always appreciate your quick replies! As you can see I went for the V1 but I also will be keeping the RX65 S7, once they swap it out for a new one.

Quick Question, the hardwire kit I have is homemade, but it uses a high grade telephone line. It only has the ground and power cables connected. I have no intrestest in the concealed displayed at this time so It shouldn't be an issue right? Will the V1 power up and work normally with my set up? I believe on my belscorts the voltage reads between 13.6 to 14. I don't want to starve the unit of power.

Your setup should work fine with the V1. The voltage readings are pretty much dictated by the car's alternator/regulator output and are well within the normal operating range.

You'll enjoy the V1 and it just so happens that it seems to get along well with the S7 platform inside the RX65 when the RX is running in USA mode.

While you can never hang your hat on a direct comparison with two detectors running side by side at the same time, you can have some fun running these two in tandem without serious loss of performance by either. I did it for several weeks and thought it was a killer combination. Notes: Powering on the RX65 in USA mode will usually set a brief K-Band alert on the V1 from the intitial self cal being performed by the RX at power on. Athough the RX runs these self cals every 15 minutes or so, only the intitial power on routine seems to set off the V1. In International mode I have heard that the RX will set X-Band falses on the V1...........I never ran the RX in International with X-Band enabled on the V1 so have no 1st hand experience with that.

In any case, you now have two top notch detectors.
