Default What got you into detectors?

    My story is:

My dad used one of the early fuzzbusters and CB radio in the early 80's but only on family road trips to FL. I loved watching the thing go off and it had like 10 LED's. That was back in the day of constant on X and K it picked up for miles. I'll post a pic if I can find one, I actually bought one cheap recently for nostalgia. Funny I guess it reminds me of the family trips. He kept it in the closet so when I got my license forever ago I would sneak it out. The one I bought still picks up X and K like a champ.

I also remember the uniden RD9XL and especially the small Passport being the detectors to have but I couldn't afford. I also remember one year getting the Cobra Trapshooter which was hot at the time for Xmas and driving around with it in the snow Xmas day. Ha!

    Whats your story?

I got a lot of tickets in the 70's. Then I got my first Whistler and never looked back. Now I run Sti-R, V-1, scanner, CB and Blinders.

Started running into daily speed traps on my commute to and from work. Had to fight back.

    Nice thread Super Dave .

I drive since end of the sixties ...way back.

The other salesman of the company one day told me : come in my car , we will visit
a new customer and I will show you something. Enter the city , told me to check
his hidden gadget will sound off ....by magic this little sniffer started to bipbipbip ...
I told you he said ...by the end of the street here was a brave policeman with an
X-band well in sight on his dash ....proud like a cowboy ....and we , puffed in laughs.

The next week I bought the same unit .

Now they build better mouse traps .....but we got smarter .

A bit later , got married with a girl who refuses to get in the car
with a ''devil'' detector ....$%&?$/$fight.....the divorce was
a non-issue ...if a wife wants to boss in your own car ....bad bad.

Thats pretty funny - my wife hates detectors. I have the "semi-retired" X50 in her van, after I drive the van occasionally she will rip that thing down so fast. I'm like - you speed too, you're going to be sorry one day, just leave it up!

My first speed trap in Miami and a nasty speed trap in Waldo, FL (The sh*tty town that makes a living off speed traps). I first got a cheap Beltronics and returned it to Circuit City when I found about about the V1 from a racing friend of mine. Never looked back since. V1 FTW!

Then later in my life , got married again , she dont mind in my car ,,,but refuses in her car ...when
I drive it my blood pressure goes high cause I feel so unprotected from mister-leo-right-pslow-but-its-the-law = ticket.

Curiously she was the one(in my car) who got the first laser ticket on hy87 ny 83-55 ...the v-1 didnt even bip ...
the nest day I ordered a blinder ...the li was not born yet .

With the psl so low everywhere it is too easy for the leos to abuse of us ...I am glad to spend
hard dollars to deny their unfair tactics ....boooooooooo

My first was the original Escort, mounted it on the visor-loved it. After it got stolen at college I experimented with the Original Passport copy of both Uniden 9XL and Cobra - they were pretty good back then, Cobra RD3100 Trapshooter, Cobra X/K with voice, Uniden RD55 (horrible), Bel Micro-eye, Passport 4500, 4600, 8500, X50, Bel 300 (I probably forgot a few).
I always had a detector so wife was used to it but could care less - Until she got a ticket! She then TOLD me that she was taking MY detector until I got her one of her own..What's a man to do..Not very often a guy gets a good excuse to buy more toys!
