Default My Valentine one let me down

Can someone tell me why my valentine one did not even go off the other day when I was given a ticket by laser. Also is there a better radar detector than valentine one that will pick up laser and radar. I just bought me the blinder Hp-905 but I want the best radar detector to go with it.

That sounds very very unusual. Without question the V1 has by far the best laser detection ability. I would ask the following:

Was it marked on your citation what laser was used?
Were you targeted from the rear?
At what distance were you approximately (if you know or if it's marked on the ticket) when you were targeted?
    Where was your detector mounted?

If your detector is older (or even if it isn't) you may want to have it looked at by VR for a check up, because this outcome was most unusual. I believe the V1 to be one of the very best detectors available along with the Escort Redline for sheer performance both on radar and laser (with the WIN for laser clearly going to the V1).

A radar detector alone will rarely provide you with enough protection from laser. Where did you purchase the blinder up-905. In our most recent LIDAR testing, the hp-905 did not jam a good number of current LIDAR guns such as the Truspeed SX, Stalker. XLR or and most of the DragonEye LIDARs. 2014 RALETC Lidar Jammer Shootout | RALETC

At any rate, additional protection or not, his V1's failing to alert is unusual which was the OP's concern.

I just got it back from V1 for the current update and I am using the blend mount on rear view mirror. The ticket just has laser on it, it don't tell what type of laser and he got me from the front. He told me when I got the ticket that he got me with laser and he seen he seen myV1 and ask me if it went off. I have a white car and the sun was bright so I don't know if that had anything to do with it not alerting. But it did not make a beep. So I called V1 and some woman there told me it was not uncommon for that to happen. I just wonder if she knows what she is talking about.

Its not uncommon. Laser is a fairly small beam (unlike radar) and your RD can only pick up what it sees. This is why its always better to have a jammer capable of detecting the laser guns used in your area.

A white car is also easer for a laser gun to acquire a speed reading.

The V1 is exceptional at detecting radar, and very good at detecting laser, but it still has to see the shot to detect it. Just think of how small a laser beam is and the fact that they generally target your front license plate and not your windshield where the V1 is.

Sure it's possible you may have an issue with your laser detection in your V1 (but i doubt it) but ultimately the jammers are going to be your best way to combat laser. Just choose your jammer wisely.

I disagree. The V1 RARELY misses a laser shot even at close range. It has by far the best sensitivity of any detector and can even still see the tricky guns out there such as the SX series, the DragonEyes, the XLRs. No other detector even comes close.

Although this is an older test, I performed an extensive test over three days of a bunch of detectors, including the V1, against the latest laser of the time.

    http://www.laserveil.com/laser/detec...ws-tests-2009/

The V1 dominated the windshield mount category.

Today the better detectors that a good at alerting are:

    Redline (Segmented version, not original)
    Passport (and Passport 8500 X50)
    SmartRadar (unfortunately discontinued)
    Whistler top models
Cobra top models (believe it or not)

Although some things that make it harder on all detectors are:

Darker colored vehicles (which can reduce reflections of hood)
Vehicles that have a high center of gravity
Mounting very high on the windshield
Mounting not in the center of the windshield
Windshields that have special coatings on them (especially higher up) which can reduce reception (to radar as well)
Off-axis shots that occur at less than 300-500 feet can be challening
Shots that occur from over-heads (like flyovers and road way bridges) especially from the rear

For those reasons, I tend to mount my detector LOW and towards the center (which helps with rear shots, although you are definitely toast without some form of CMs on the back).

This has been my experience with driving with the V1 since the circa 90-91 or nearly 24-25 years!

I'd personally send it in for a check-over, which wouldn't hurt because they'll check out the radar circuitry as well.

The other side of this as well is that no counter measure (RDs, Laser Jammers, Veil, Plate Covers, Waze) is perfect.

I thought the Blinder HP-905 was a great jammer I watched Radar Roy do a test against several different lasers and the Blinder HP-905 did a great job or at least I thought. Could you all please help me I want an excellent Jammer and radar detector. I just ordered the HP-905 but I have not installed it yet. I would like some opinion's I can sell the HP-905 and order me another jammer. All recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

The ALPs are proving to be the most effective at the latest lidars that others are failing at, including the Blinder, I am afraid. Roy is now offering the ALP and maybe he can help you out with a transition if that is your preference. For a detector if you want extreme performance then a Redline or a V1c would be my recommendation. If you want a very good all-around detector (albeit with weak laser) then the Max/Max2 could be the way to go. Also an older 8500 x50 which is still being offered is a terrific thoroughbred with a long history behind it. The newer Passport has BT integration (like the Max2) which can allow you to pair your smartphone to it to control it and integrate into Escort Live, an app for smartphones. I know, so many choices, I can understand if your head is spinning.
