A call to all Forums users to stop propagating X-band myth.

X Band is still used up here... Not often, but it's still around and when used properly....lethal....I never shut off X Band...you just never know. :wink:

Just when I was getting out of the X Band, they pull me back in!!!!!

... and don't defeat the X band in your detectors. Back in the day, THP used K-55's exclusively, and as THP went, so did most of the smaller departments around the state. So there's still tons of old X band units still in use with departments who either couldn't afford to upgrade or didn't really feel the need to. Now that THP has Stalker Duals, many other depts. have followed suit, but the X units are still out there. So be warned.

Oh, and if you're ever on I-24 between Chattanooga and Nashville, keep your eyes open for THP driving a new blacked-out Explorer! As I got past some traffic and was getting "back up to speed" yesterday, he pulled right in front of me to pace a vehicle I was following and throw down on the blues. Definitely a narrow escape for ole' Jimbo.

Last night I was driving up I-695 in Catonsville, MD just before the 95 overpass, i got an X bleep and didnt think anything of it because I had never seen or thought that X band was used by police in this area! So as I kept driving, my X50 kept showing a dot or more on X band, and it kept doing back and forth for atleast a mile! Next thing I know, I now am showing a very strong Ka and a very strong X band. Now I know that whenever I get Ka band in this area, its a cop. 10 seconds later I can see the flashing lights in the distance, 2 cop cars are on the side of the road with another car pulled over in front of them. It has now taught me that X band IS used by SOME cops in Baltimore County!!! X band must have a very strong signal as my X50 picked it up about a mile back and the radar gun wasnt even facing my direction!

I think its time that we stop repeating the myth that xband is only used in those two states... because every time I hear it stated, the statement seems more and more absolute.

I belive the first time I read the statement it said that those two states are the only two known to have widesperead use of Xband. This does not mean however that they are the only two states xband is used in.

So, please folks.... when people talk about or ask about xband, don't give them the same tired old party line about ohio and new jersey, I just don't think its true anymore....

I can tell you for a fact that X band is still being used around where I live as I was just hit with X band radar last night and not only that but it was a cop using instant on radar.
