Default How much trust do you have?

Hi, glad to be a member of this forum.

I just bought a cobra radar detector for $150 and hope it works well, I probably should have saved and got a better one but I'm a little impatient.

My question is, how much trust do you have in your radar detector?
And how often do you speed with it compared to before?

One more question, what should I expect from a $150 detector and is it enough to bet a ticket on it?

what model cobra do you have? btw, cobra's didn't get a bad rep. for being cheap, they got a bad rep. for terrible performance. might wanna try it out and return it before the return time is up, then u could pick up one at similar price or even cheaper that has mcuh better performance, from what i've read the bel's and whistlers are a good bang for your buck. i think u got banged for your buck in this instance

I bought the XRS-9530, it was $139 plus shipping.

Return your cobra as fast as you can, they are pretty bad. Whistlers are really good for the money, you might want to try a Whistler PRO 73 which you can find it for less than that. Go to Roy's website www.radarbusters.com an you can buy it from him, also you can go to this thread and look for the RDs that fit your price range, this RDs were recommended by other members as good for the money.

I don't think I can return it, I bought it off e-bay. I could resell it on there and loose a little money, but Oooo well. I will test it out and see if I like it first.

    A couple of points:

    1) Never buy a detector off of ebay
    2) A bel 795 ($60) is way better. The whistler Pro58 ($98) and the Pro 73 ($145) are better as well.
    3) RDs only help you. They won't "save" you if you don't do other things like be aware of your surroundings, watch for break lights, have a rabbit in front of you, etc.

Don't feel too bad, I didn't realize Cobras sucked until I got interested in radar detectors. Try to ebay it back, or sell it.

Welcome to the forum Jkirch. How much trust do I have in my RX65? Ka and K band radar on highway, yes. How often do i speed with it than without it? Before I got a laser jammer, I actually drive more slowly with my detector than without one since I learnt how deadly laser can be.

I would trust my cop psychic abilities over a cobra radar detector.

Get a whistler if you don't want to spend a bunch of money. Everyone else agrees I think.

    V1, X50, RX65 > Bel STi > mid-range Bels (RX55, V995), Escort Solo S2 > Whistlers, low-end Bels (795, 895) > PNI > Crapra > squirrel taped to your dashboard with its nuts hard-wired to the fuse box > Unidung, Radio Shack, etc.

That's a very rough sketch. Considering your price range and situation, I'd hang on to the Crapra until the GOL tests on the new Whistlers are complete (you guys are testing the XTRs, right?), then decide between the XTR series and the Pro-58/73 models. Whistler definitely sounds like what you want.
