Yeah I see....but I was posting while he did that. It take a long time to type a message with your thumbs, and getting the caps key down at the right time is still a mystery to me as weLl. :P

Unless Pennsylvania still uses an older radio system with the same mobile extender freqs that the BCT-10 uses, then I wouldn't get it. The BCT-12 is a little newer so that one might be better. The only way to really know about the state's radio system is to do a search of websites for Pennsylvania scanner freqs, and find one that is recently updated. If you see any frequencies that are labelled "mobile repeater" or "mobile extender" and they are in the 150Mhz range or arounf the 460 MHz range, then it is likely that the highway patrol alert on the BCT-10 and BCT-12 will work for you. Driving across the country, it will be hit and miss, some states still use the extenders some dont, but it will give you some protection.
IMHO for avoiding tickets though on the interstates, the CB is far more useful. But as far as the Pro 83 goes for receiving CB, I'm not sure. You would probably need a long aftermarket antenna for any decent performance. I've tried some handheld scanners for CB receive and most of them sucked pretty bad with the stock "rubber duck", I never heard anything much with them unless I was actually at a truck stop or the guy transmitting was right next to me. There was one scanner (Yaesu VR-120) however that had an internal "bar/coil" antenna for the lower frequencies, and with that the scanner received just as well as my handheld CB did, however range was still very unsatisfactory IMHO...

Finally recieved my BCT-8. I am leaving now for a trip down to S. TX. Let you know after I play with it when im there.
Link above doesn't seem to work.
How's the 8 better than the 12, anyway, and where can they be had, other than catching one on eBay? I might be interested in picking one up.
Yep, looks like they're out of the Uniden refurbs...Originally Posted by Veri

You can get them from various places, scannermaster.com has them...
I was thinking about getting a bct-12. But like Jim says its outdated. Still my favorite design! Needs some updated features! Put a memory card on it and a scrolling display. I be all over it, of course it would also be digital capable!
What Uniden really has to do is provide a service to update the state police frequencies for the beartracker warning systems.
That would be awesome if you could update the frequencies to the BCT-10 and 12, and even the 8 which is probably already outdated as well now. It wouldn't be too hard. I already have the scanner programming software and cable, I just need an update file. As far as I know, you can't touch the pre-programming state frequencies. (at least I haven't been able to find them)
The BCT-15 and BCD996T have beartrackers too right? They're probably a bit more updated.
Well, I think you set the record for "raising the dead"... Last post in this thread was 1 Year and 5 months ago![]()
The BCT-15 has the beartracker feature, not sure about the BCD996T ....
wow I don't know how that happened. I only read threads that are on top so I have no idea how I would even see this one.
that was weird..sorry
