Default got it (Pro-2096) need help tho

So I made the drive to the states and bought an RS Pro-2096.

Hell of a unit, but its been many years since I last owned a scanner and im finding it tricky to get back into, especially programming...

does anyone have one of these, or the pro 96 and could give me some tips?

it would be great if i could find a p96 file for ontario...or even just for ottawa or toronto...

    thanks,

    R

Well I have this cable from RS #20-047 and software called WIN96 (There are others but the list is very limited).
This was the easiest way to program this scanner.

It took some time for me to figure out the software too.
The only main area you should try to figure out first is the tab "channels"
    and understanding the banks selection.
This is what my first bank looks like.

ok, im learning more and more, as it seems i knew less than i thought.

so we can only do one trunked network per bank i think...every freq that is used on the network should be listed in the bank and control channels locked out...?

ok, and so the freqs are common to a bunch of users, and the different talk groups are all the different groups that use those frequencies...?

so we can hear all of them and the scanner will show us which talk group is active, but they can only pickup their own talkgroup?

    thanks for the help btw...

    Yes

    Yes

Notice the Closed check box in the last picture.
If this is checked it will filter out all talkgroups that are not in your list.
This will make the scanner more quiet if there is a lot of traffic on the system.
MN has a very large system and will make you go nuts trying to follow a conversation.
Oh big thing i found on the scanner. If you want to listen to a conversation or follow it. Press Trunk button it will lock the scanner into that ID so you can follow it.

Yes, you can only do one trunked system per bank. If it's Motorolla or APCO-25 you only need to enter the control frequencies. Don't lockout active control channels! That will kill all traffic in the system. You don't need all the voice frequencies because that's what the Talkgroup ID's are for. You can also press PAUSE to stop on an active Talkgroup.

EDACS systems are a different story. You have to enter all the channels in Logical Channel Number (LCN) order (i.e. system channel 1 in scanner channel 1, 2 in 2, etc.). Then you also need the Talkgroup ID's.

Hopefully it's okay to link, but this is a great site for finding frequencies:
