    Default UNIDEN 510XL

Just ordered today, and i was looking at the Little wil antenna from wilson.
I hear this is a good antenna if your looking for something budget wise with decent range and small length . And do i need to do a swr tuning when i mount it up?

Yes, you should check SWR. Does your Honda have a trunk or is it hatch back? If you have a trunk and put the antenna there and you can't resolve a high SWR, then try mounting the antenna on the roof. You will get better performance on the roof anyway. Someone on here a while back had their antenna on the trunk and couldn't get rid of a high SWR and finally figuered out that the trunk lid did not provide a ground for the antenna. Just a little heads up.

Oh yeah, a use a 'Lil Wil antenna and it works great. You should get good performance out of it. Take care.
Outside Independence Hall when the Constitutional Convention of 1787 ended, Mrs. Powel of Philadelphia asked Benjamin Franklin, "Well, Doctor, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?" With no hesitation whatsoever, Franklin responded, "A republic, if you can keep it."

    Thanx,
my Honda has a trunk rather than a hatchback.

im going to order the LiL Wil tonight.

I will keep in mind the high SWR and I will consider mounting on the roof.

For best reception mount your Lil' Wil' on your roof....Only reason I usually keep my antenna on my truck the whip is so tall already it rarely needs me to raise it up

yeah i will consider, it's just that i don't want it to look cheesy.

also how much of a reception gain by putting it on the roof rather than the trunk?

Could mean a save from no save. Like it does look stupid I have run my Wilson 500(58inches tall) on the roof of my volvo for trips I know the police are out in full force. I want my transmitting range and reception to be the best i mount my antenna at the highest possible point...

You might be able to get away with it on the trunk but the performance will not be the best

    Mounting Position
Position is very important when mounting a CB antenna. You want to mount the antenna as high as possible to get the best performance. Most people mount the antenna on the roof, as this is normally the highest point on a vehicle. Also you must position the antenna so that it is not near any other metalwork (a car stereo ariel for instance), as this will affect the SWR of the antenna(click on 'what is swr?' on the right if you are unfamiliar with this term).

WHAT IS THE BEST ANTENNA FOR MY MOBILE CB RADIO?
A - This is tough to answer, & there are many variables, but here are some good general guidelines & "Rules of thumb". First, The Taller the antenna, the better it will work. Mount your antenna as high as possible on the vehicle, & try to get at least 50% of it over the roofline. Usually, all else being equal, the Tallest, longest antenna you are comfortable with, mounted as high as possible, will give the best performance. For Example, mounting a new 4 ft CB antenna where you were using a 2 footer, will usually give better results. It wouldn't matter what "brand name", color or style the 2 ft antenna was. Keep in mind that CB antennas that are less than 3 feet tall, those that "stick to the glass", & the AM/FM/CB "combo" antennas & adaptors generally do not give the best performance, they are mostly bought & sold mainly for "convienience" & "cosmetic" reasons.

It might look bad but who cares when you got the radio call in clear that there is a bear ahead taking pictures

As long as you are receiving a good SWR, I don't see why it matters if it's on the trunk or roof. Yes mounting on the roof can give you a better SWR out of the box, but an antenna can be tuned in most cases for any mounting position, assuming your trunk IS grounded in the first place.

I would mount on the trunk, the antenna looks silly enough already! Even with the Lil' Wil I get plenty of comments.

I have found their is very little difference between the wilson 1000 and the LIL Will. Believe me I have tested both on my car and talk to several truckers and ask how the quality is on one and the other including truckers that where far away. Both said on either one I was loud and proud. The wilson 1000 I was hitting just about everything going by and the Lil Will. I clear things quite nicely. Grant it my mount is on my hood.

I have gotten exellent performance out of my 'Lil Wil. I have gone up to 10 to 12 miles with my current set up.
