    Default Another Antenna question...

hey guys. im looking for a new scanner antenna. i have a RS Pro-2054 scanner with one of those cheap RS antennas. it picks up pretty well but (as most will know of they have one) the magnet is VERY WEAK! hit a decent pot hole or a leaf on a tree, lol, the thing falls over. not only is it scratching my paint but im worried about it coming down and craking my window too. also, i am a vol. fireman, and the other day i was going on a call and the dang antenna fell over, which means i have to pull over and sit the thing back up, cant have this happening anymore!

so anyway im looking for suggestions on a new anteanna with great reception and a stronger magnet. my wilson lil wil has 50lb pull strength and i have NEVER had a problem with it. i think this has a pull strength of 5 lbs lol

thanks alot for the help guys!

I use an MFJ NMO style mag mount base with a Larsen tri-band antenna. Its really optimized for UHF, but it works OK on VHF. When I want to listen to VHF stuff, I just switch it out with my Larsen 2/70 whip that I use with my mobile ham rig. That antenna does a much nicer job with VHF public safety, railroad and aviation communications.

The old Radio Shack mag mount scanner antenna used to be great, but I understand that the newer ones are fraught with problems, most notably the loading coils breaking.

ya the RS brand antennas arent the best. the screw in the base is all rusty and wont stay tight either. could you point me in the direction of a good anteanna? like website? around here everyone uses high band like 460.XXX, 453.XXX,, 462.XXX, and a few low bands like 155.XXX, 154.XXX and 33.XXX. if this helps when picking an antenna

I have used several different monitor antennas from Antenna Specialists, satisfied with each of them.

the MONR33 says it will pick up lowband, VHF and UHF, which is good b/c everyone around here is on a different band. i need from 33.980 up to 475.975 this will pick all of those up right?
