Default A few questions about scanners and cb's

First of all, hello! I'm on this site to learn more about scanners and perhaps cb's. I recently bought a uniden bct8 and I'm satisfied with it but the reception can get a bit fuzzy I was wondering what a good antenna i can get (keep in mind i have a small car and not planning to drill holes in the body)

On the other note, I have been interested in cb radios for a little while, after watching Smokey and the Bandit i think, but i'm not on the freeway too often and my scanner picks up no activity on the cb freq. My question is, is it worth buying a cheaper uniden cb and an antenna or is it pretty much for freeway use?

Being a pizza devilry guy I speed around town quite a lot and bought a Cobra XRS 9430 and it worked well, however after about a month in the CA sun i think it got f*cked up somehow because it catches ether nothing or a false alarm for X. I know this because I've driven streetlight at the radar gun with no alerts. Is it possible it got fried or theres something else wrong?

    pardon any spelling mistakes

I've had zero luck using my CB on the freeways. It's mostly in Spanish which I don't speak well enough to understand much of whats said. On the interstate it gets a lot better and the CB can alert you to a lot of problems not just law enforcement issues. So I keep the CB in trunk unless I'm making an interstate run.

As you might have read. Cobra RDs are not very good, and not very well built. I think you might want to look at the Bell 995 as a quality cost effective detector.

i was listening to 2 meter hams on my scanner today, how hard is it to get one and do i need a license? They sounded like they were using them in their cars, how much bigger would the antenna have to be?
