alright.. so this combination leads to a bottom and center loaded antenna. how does it compare to the little wil, which is similar in length?

Theoretically, more range... I've never used any CB antenna other than the 5000... usually I get an average of 10 miles on open road WITH buildings around me (so city area) and I remember one case with about 20 miles range somewhere down in Texas btwn SA and El Paso, smokey alert and then talking to a trucker and exchanging our exact locations (mile markers) but that area is just flat terrain, nothing to interfere with the signal...

i thought top mounted antennas gave the best reception per size and bottom mounted gave the worse. is there any way to compare this to others?

Wilson antennas are by far the very best in the industry, specifically designed for the open road warrior, car driver or trucker!
Now, after over 2 years of using the above combination and very happy with its performance I would never recommend anything less than a Wilson, period!

yah and I have tons of friends who recommend cobras yet none who know what bel/escort is. just cuz it is recommended doesn't prove it is the best. to prove it tests help a lot. think of guys of lidar but instead for reception. plain numbers that prove something has better range than another product is what I want not a brand name. and honestly i'm sure that brand does kick all. actually, i'd bet on it. but still, i want hard hitting numbers.

trying to learn silly. are there any antennas you recommend that don't give the rc car look? aka no magnet mount on roof or trunk or anything like that?

The best CB antenna bar nun is the 102" stainless steel whip just ask any true big talk CB user....But they do say that the Wilson 5000/1000 and 500 come damn close

why 42 inches? it says "Designed for maximum efficiency, it is only 3ft short and replaces the 62" whip" so wouldn't it be 36 inches?
