Default RadioShack TRC-241 vs Midland 75-822

I decided to buy a cb this weekend. Was going to get a Midland 75-822, which Target was supposed to have in stock, but didn't. So I ended up getting a RadioShack TRC-241. These two appear to be about the same thing, just from different manufacturers. I bought a Lil' Wil to go with it.

My question is, does anyone know if there is a major difference in the RadioShack and Midland? I see a lot of people on here use the Midland, so I'm sure it's a good unit. I've also read several times that the cb itself has little impact compared to the antenna.

Thanks in advance for any comments!

let me know how your setup turns out. I have something similar and something isn't quite right. You can see my thread at the top of the forum

Will do. Kind of hard to tell so far because I40 has been fairly empty due to weekend. I'm not receiving much yet on the road. I was at the truck stop and picked up plenty...but that only confirms my reception is great inside of 1/4 mile!

I also pick up engine noise. It "whines" when I rev the engine. Also, this doesn't seem to be cause by my DC adapter, because I disconnected and ran off of batter pack alone. I'll know more next week.

I'm curious about the radio though. I really wanted the Midland, but if the RadioShack is just as good, I'll stick with it.

Let me know if you come up with any good fixes too.

I don't have a fix on the engine noise yet, but I noticed I get a lot less static when I take the antenna off of the car hehe. Its no use to me sitting on the ground but my noise drops down by 50%.

I think I'm going to return my Midland xx-822. I might have gotten a faulty unit. I put my midland and little wil on my buddies jeep which has a really old and cheap midland standard" radio. We swapped antennas back and forth and each time mine was coming in scratchy while his was crystal clear.

why am i writing this here? i got my own thread

I'm using the Midland 75-822 just because that was the one and only handheld CB in my area, or at least that was the case at the beginning of Jan '06 when I bought it... if your CB is brand-new, try to see why your car is giving you that static noise, I personally don't have this issue at all, never had...

    Happy CBing

So definitely a problem with YOUR car and its electrical system, too much static, you gotta get rid of the static, there is no problem with the CB and its antenna!!!

What we did is put my CB setup on my roommates jeep next to his. We then swapped antennas back and forth (both on the jeep at this point) and my handheld was scratchy while the standard unit was very clear.

An odd thing I noticed is that a lot of static, not engine noise, went away when I accidently touched my audio jack to the outer part of the rubber duckie plug.

I got all day today to figure this out.
