    Default Scanner in Boston?

I just bought a BCT-15 and its still in the box since I have been busy. I keep hearing about areas switching to digital. Does anyone know if boston has done this?
I want to know before I open the box and install it.

Also does anyone know, can I use a Lil Wil antenna with a uniden scanner?

The only digital I know of in the Boston area is Boston College and Boston University. The city's trunk system is not digital, and I have heard nothing about them going that way. And most of the public safety stuff isn't on the trunk system anyhow.

No, you cannot use a scanner with a Lil Wil anymore than you can fire a 12 gauge shotgun shell out of a .22 rifle. Unless, of course, all you intend to listen to on your scanner is CB frequencies. Then it will work just fine.

Matching is not the issue. You can plug any antenna into your scanner with the right adaptor. You just won't like the results. Trying to listen to police with a CB antenna is like trying to receive Dish Network with your AM/FM car antenna. It just doesn't work, even if it does fit.

So now I have the BCT15 out of the box and I found this list of Boston area freq's, Boston Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference so I just punch these in. But these are only 2 dozen or so, why does the scanner have 250,000 available spots. I decided the 250 of the BCT8 wasn't enough but wow 250K. Given enough time I can punch in all the freq's from boston to maine, a trip I make somewhat regularly. But I guess that's the idea, if so that gps adapter is looking pretty good.

Probably 90 percent of what you want to listen to is already pre-programmed into the scanner from the factory. Look in the manual. There is a list of pre-programmed systems in the back.

If nobody told you yet, don't even think of trying to program this thing manually. You'll end up frustrated to the point of wanting to sell it. Go to ScanNow.com and download FreeScan. Even that is a little complicated, but it's a LOT easier than trying to program manually.

    Enjoy!

I just wait for n00bs to get frustrated and put their Bearcats on eBay where I can buy them cheap. It happens a lot!

But it's nice to see the occasional success story!
