which cb to go with uniden 520xl or the 510xl?

Those two radios are the same size, the 520 is 10 dollars higher. If you want the gain I would think that would be worth it.

Depends on what you are using it for... I assume your using it for countermeasures right?

The main reason for an RF Gain is so that people (truckers in a city for example) only receive the strongest signals... and they don't get background junk from ~15Miles away.

Or if they are in a convoy... and at the moment are only interested in conversing with truckers in the very close area, and want to cut down on other transmissions coming through that would normally be heard with the RF Gain up.


It basically is like another squelch control... on that radio.

On bigger radios (not the one you listed), it does help (along with a clarifier and LSB/USB and Roger Beep) pull in some really long distance chats over other radios. [Forget this technical stuff, you really don't want to get into it for countermeasures purposes, but there are more reasons for an RF Gain is what I am saying].


Think of the 510 with its gain (virtually) 100% 'up' under every circumstance... just from the factory without the ability to change this.

From what I've been told you won't be able to get your hands on a Pro520xl for a while unless some store has them stock piled, they're on a manufacturer back order. I just picked up the pro510xl.

I have had the 520 now for 10 years great unit. I am probably going to upgrade next year to a unit with more features. I would like to have one with weather.
