Thread: CB experience

    Default CB experience

I have to thank everyone that helped me out a couple of weeks ago with my CB install: languy99, the breeze, deadreb425, airmoore, category4, and others. I got everything set up by Thanksgiving so I gave it a real thorough test as I did some traveling over that weekend. I know it has been said over and over again about just how useful a CB is. I can't agree with the CB fanatics more. The CB was absolutely amazing on the highway. I had 6+ miles notice about one smokey, and I just couldn't believe how helpful the radio was for traffic conditions, weather, etc. Thanks again guys. I'm going to be traveling again over the holidays and I'm really looking forward to the drive - the CB is also an excellent source of entertainment. At one point on my last trip one trucker came on the radio and said: "God damn, that lady in the green minivan had the nicest set of sweater monkeys!"

The only thing that I'm kind of bummed about is I'm already thinking about upgrading...

One of the best countermeasures you can use. Just made a 4 hr. trip to Lubbock today and got one 7 miles in advance. Slowed to PSL the Valentine picked up IO K at around 2 miles.
Second alert close to Childress Tx. running with 4 rabbits, no alert till I topped a little hill then full K band. He never hit any of the front runners. Running 77 in a 70 and he just flashed his lights at me.

I just installed a CB myself. It's the closest thing to a "cop detector" I've used. Nobody hesitates to announce the presence of every LEO they can see.

The only disappointing thing is all the profanity, racists, survivalistic conspiracy theorists, American Idol rejects and such.

Congrats... and I am glad I (among others) could help you with installing one of the most effective countermeasures possible.

Enjoy your new best countermeasure on the interstate/highway system.

As for the upgrading: I understand that completely.

Ya know, that's an excellent way of putting it. The CB really is what a lot of people expect a radar detector to be. A cop detector. While it certainly cannot take the place of an RD, it is undoubtedly the perfect companion.

    x2

There is just something about that human touch to a CB radio, combined with the vast numbers of them (whenever truckers are around)... that makes them so amazing.

I spent about $120 - Cobra 19 DX IV from Sparky's, Wilson Little Wil off eBay, and an SWR meter...
