You want it to be installed outside the vehicle? Be kinda hard to hear the speaker with all the wind noise, plus the whole sticking your head out the window/sunroof...but I digress.

Any hand held will not require an install.

Impossible, unless you only want to talk to someone riding next to you.

^^^^ Pretty much covers it all.

We need a sticky that covers that one sole question:

Q: "Can I have a (truly) effective CB set-up without a big antenna on the exterior of my car?"

    A: "No."

    Next question...

not going to happen, cb radio with no antenna won't work at all, and you'll end up burning it up if you don't have an antenna, and a really small antenna is not going to help out much at all

I have a Midland 75-785 (can find them on amazon) and it works quite well. I may have gotten a factory freak, but it dead-keys 5 watts and will swing 10+. Only catch is that the small antenna that comes with it is totally useless. No matter what you get, you're going to need an external antenna. I've got a Cobra HG A1500 on the way right now, it's about 34-36 inches height, but the HG A1000 is somewhere about 21, which is probably not even as tall as your radio antenna. Worth a look!

Just get an inexpensive CB and a good quality antenna. Once you begin to use it you won't mind the antenna.

I had serious reservations about mounting an antenna as well but trust me, if you operate on the interstate much function will override any problems about having a nerd stick on your ride

My CB saves me more than my RD...

Do you just want to listen? or do you want to talk too?

I think you may be able to get away with a stealthy antenna set up if you just want to listen.... if you're only going to listen, you might was well just get a scanner set up instead

you don't hve to have a permanent install inside... can have it in there without doing any damage, as regards the antenna, just get a mag mount and take it easy when you remove it and you'll be fine....
