700 mile each way trip with CB

So I've been using the CB for awhile and I knew it was worth its weight in gold but I had never used it on a trip of this length. Now I really am a believer. Let me just say that there is no countermeasure on the open interstate that is better (in conjunction with your RD). A few of my experiences:

1st speedtrap on the shoulder I got no warning from the CB but it was pretty early in the morning - X50 did it's job though. Maybe he had just set up.

Next one I got literally a 20-25 mile advance warning on LEO in the median via mile marker. Can't beat that.

Next one was really good - I got about a 5 mile advanced warning, LEO using I/O in the trees in the median - you could hardly see him until it was almost too late, they called it out to the exact mile marker.

Next one I didnt get off the CB because some idiot on a base station drowning everyone else out for about 10 miles but X50 did it's job.

On the way back, the best 2 - had LEO's 1 on each side of a median radaring, so many truckers were calling these guys loction out like 30 miles away they were talking over each other. It was like a game of who could find them 1st. Another one in the same city about 5 miles down the road same thing it was funny.

There were a few other minor ones (unmarked traveling same direction, that type of thing, and a few locations called out, but by the time I got there they were gone) - but I swear I have never felt as confident getting to my destination "quicker than I should have" before. It was amazing and I will never leave home without it on a long trip like that. Plus having all sorts of conversations to listen to really helps pass the time. There is no better cou termeasure for the price.

This morning I'm on my way to work in a new town FAR from the interstate and I got a bear report of a smokey at a gas station shooting radar.

There must be some kind of truck depot near here because there was a lot of chatter this evening.

I've been doing a few hundred miles this week on the interstate without it (I need to grab a set screw for the whip from the hardware store) in sort of this advanced commuting with the GF being in a different state than me, with the CB down it's almost the same as being in the city w/out an RD as I've lost my advance warning on LIDAR and pacers(was one of my best saves on a 25 speed traps in 200mi day in AR).

No ears on and that hammer leaves a lot more to fate than you usually think about.

Good write up. A CB is one of the best countermeasures for the money that you can get. Nothing else you can set up for 100 bucks that will touch it on the road.

Nothing can touch a CB for the money and combined with a RD one or the other will get the job done. They just compliment each other.

Dang it! I have to get a cheap but decent CB. Why have I been avoiding this? It doesn't make sense and it must be stupidity on my behalf.

Best countermeasure there is on the interstate... bar none MEM!

As with anything: Its just a tool, but its one of those where: the more you use it, the more you will love it.



Especially when you factor in it can: find a nice quick place to eat, the best way somewhere, traffic in such and such a region, weather conditions for the direction your traveling, entertainment.... along with blowing away every other countermeasure in a information/detail aspect, oh and range of course.


Basically: Until you have a CB, you don't have a real set of countermeasures for interstate driving.

For the Radio common start points are (all in the $35-50 range)
Cobra 19 (a few vartiations out there but the $34 wal mart one gets it done, what I run and also recommended by a big name in the business http://www.sparkyscbshack.com/recommended.html)
Uniden 510/520 (the 20 has a few more features but it's the same basic radio)
Midland (has a few in the $40 range)
RadioShack (ericonpheonix has his mounted on the ceiling, it and the Uniden are the smaller boxes of those that I've listed)

The Wilson Little Will (and spelling variation there of) go for under $30 if you shop around, I got mine from amazon)

SWR meter goes for $10ish or pay 5 for someone else to do it for you, but either way you need to do it before you talk so you dont fry it all

Factor in shipping tax etc and you're out about $100

I'm converting video from earlier this week of a 20 and 50mi saves, find a RD or jammer that'll meet that, plus it told meof an accident so I skkipped the backup
