    Default CB update

Well, I just got off a 300 mile trip (mostly interstate) with my "big" radio and man, what a difference!

The audio is a whole lot better and it's just "quieter" When the squelch is turned up to listen to tx almost out of range it's no where near as "staticy" and abrasive. (If that makes sense...)

I talked to a couple of drivers to adjust the mic gain and power mic and all reports were pretty favorible. The range also seemed to be much improved although this may have been just better audio quality.

Mind you, this is going from the cheapest possible CB to a decent mid-range unit. I can't imagine going from a cheapie to a tree scorcher!

If you can find the room in your ride I say go for a "driver" unit

Good to hear it worked for you. Hey we run what we can afford and have the room for. No road trips with my new Galaxy yet but look forward to it. Been wondering about the firestik antenna, since my wife doesn't want a gaudy antenna on her ride.

I will have a road trip coming up with my galaxy a total of 700miles so I will put my new galaxy to work

My only issue is going to be where to put my radio. Its alot bigger than my 510 xl

I'm running a 3' Firestick and it works pretty well. Today I stopped by the first truckstop that had Wilson antennas and they had a "Trucker 2000".

It's supposed to be in between the 1000 and the 5000 but it is a "center coil" design. I didn't buy it because I'm not sure if you can run it without the shaft between the coil and the mount. I'm still searching for info on the web because I may pick it up on the way home.

Wilson guarantees that it's better than anything else out there and I know I won't be happy until I try a wilson. They also had a lil' will in stock but I think it would be a step down from my 3' firestick...

The weather radio is really what sold me on the Uniden. Not real sexy but I spend a LOT of time on the road and have REALLY wished I had it in the past.

Probably never need it now that I have it...

Yea, CB's are pretty cool... Something else to get into, read about, lust over, etc...

So you aren't running it permanent? That's a SWEET radio from what I've read.

I only really bother to put my CB on my car for long road trips. I hope your uniden came peaked and tunes cause I have found even with the two cobra 29's I bought out of radio shack they made my simple little tuned 510xl sound like it was a high dollar radio. If I didn't fry the internals I probably would still be using it.

As for antenna. You probably won't notice much of a difference between the 3ft firestick and 3ft Lil Wil. Step up to a man's antenna like a Wilson 500 then you will notice a huge difference

Also look on ebay for the wilson antenna's its a much better deal than buying them instores

Seems like my life is a long road trip sometimes... (On a crappy hotel wi-fi now.)

I'll probably send my Uniden in for a P/T soon. Should have bought it online already done but I'm impatient.

So you think I'd be able to tell a difference with a Wilson 2000 over the Firestick? It's a "mid coil". The looks bothered me at first but now, short of a mile long steel whip, I'm into performance.

This radio is nice and I want an antenna that'll do it justice...

    God help me...

Well the deal with the Trucker Mid-coil yes you will notice a huge different

That is a mighty tall antenna BTWs 5"or10" steel shaft coming off the mount and then you have the coil and then a 49" Whip coming from the antenna

Now I have heard from CB enthuiast that some of the transmiting power it lost from the coil and that it why they recommend mounting it the coil so it have a clear view of the road. Personally my Wilson 500 mag mount is on my trunk lid and I get great performance. The general ideal is you want more than half your antenna higher than the the roof of the car and my Wilson 500 is 60" total in height so its perfect

How is your firestick mounted on?

My firestick is mounted to my trunklid towards the rear. I was stuck with mounting it there so I could get the trunk open.

The 2000 they had at the TS wasn't much longer than 3'. The coil and "stalk" below it would only add about another 10". It was an older USA made one which makes me think I should go ahead and buy it...

How did you fry your 510?

    Mag mount?

Here is the main reason I went with my Wilson 500, their guarantee.

"The Wilson 500 will transmit and receive farther than the antenna it replaces (except the Wilson 1000 or 5000) or your money back. This guarantee is good for 15 days from the date of purchase at the original purchase point only, and with dated sales receipt. "

Do some research on Wilson's site cause the TS is ment to have a 18" or 22" stalk and the the 31" whip
