the range isn't the best on those...you lose alot of gain

I had one when my power antenna worked b/c the top of the antenna was taller than my roof and it was OK. The antenna broke in the down position and I was too lazy and cheap to replace it with another retractable unit. I had one of those "universal rubber" antennas laying around but the CB reception with this one is basically nothing b/c it was only about 12" tall. I already had a glass mounted (cellular look) CB only antenna that I never installed until about a month ago and it seems to be working OK. It is nowhere near the performance of a "real" CB antenna, but I have been able to confirm a range of at least 2 miles with a trucker via mile marker locationing.
