Variable power for Cobra 25 LTD

Anyone know a simple variable power for the 25 LTD classic? I see a "swing kit" on that bay site that offers it with a simple 2 wire connection, but all the instructions I find on doing this online seems to be having to remove VR5, adding a resistor in etc. and was wondering if anyone knows a simpler way of doing it, not that I don't mind doing the long way but if I can get around having to do all that, think it would be better and less chance at messing up my radio!

Are you dropping your deadkey to run an amp? This is pretty much what I did to mine to turn the power down.

Will have to look at those pages later as Yahoo! is giving me an error when I try to pull them up. Plan to in the near future and was wanting to get all my ducks in a row so that when I do I'll have everything on hand to do what I need to do, first though I'm going to go over the radio and make sure any mods done to it won't affect running an amp. It still has the stock final so at least I don't have to worry about that.
