    Default Mobile scanner antenna

    Mobile "Cellular Look-Alike" Glass-Mount Scanner Antenna - RadioShack.com

I picked one up today. Yea or nay?

I found a RS in Warner Robins Ga. that actually has CB's and scanner antennas!

Unless you're trying to get some particularly weak or distant signals, the RS glassmount is a very good performer on all bands, considering the lack of ground plane. It definitely looks better than most other antennae.

I'm just trying for local traffic as I pass through different areas. If it works well I may get the GPS deal and try it out.

I finally got a usb cable for the BCT15 so I'm going to try loading some freqs. from areas I'll be rolling through next week.

1200 miles this week... No tickets!

I had one on my truck. Worked ok. But it was on a tinted window. Which i think killed the distance. But it did work better then the rubber antenna i got with the scanner.

You're supposed to cut out the tint before you apply it. Just hold the mounting base up to the glass and cut around it with a razor blade, then peel the little square of tint away. I'm not sure I am convinced of how it could make a difference, performance wise, but the instructions do say to do so. Might just be for adherence, and not performance, though.

Have it, use it, love it.

Same rule of thumb goes for CB though, higher is better, if you can get it near the top of your rear window you'll have much better reception than if it's down near the bottom. And it looks stealth enough most people totally miss that I've even got something extra on the car, unless the lil wil is on the roof

Edit: Speaking of USB programming I just sat down and revamped my 996t's programming tonight....I think I need a drink now.

I have those factory "tint lines" at the top of my back glass. I wonder if it will hurt anything? If it's the same stuff as the "3rd visor" dots I know it doesn't affect radar.

I'm using freescan to build my scanner now. So far so good...

Considering the info I'm inputting it's not that bad so far. RR is a GOOD thing!

I believe the instructions tell you to stay away from those and the heater elements. On mine, I have it down three or four inches from the top of the glass because of that.

I checked out my back glass today and there isn't a square inch that doesn't have factory tint bands or defrost wires

I don't have any other options other than the windshield...

Rear door near the hinge above where the child safety mechanism stops the window from going dow? Leave the window up all the time, but put some slack under the trim or headliner in case it goes down.

C panel window on a neon?

I'd risk putting it over a defroster before I put it on the windshield....esp if your travel crosses state lines.
