OP, what was your old setup? We should make sure we're making recommendations that would actually be an improvement and not just posting what we had to use because it fit in our cars.

I'd also like to make sure you know that a talkback speaker would be useless to you unless your 520 has been modified to add that feature.

I really wonder how small shops are going to survive with the prices Walmart has.
All made in the yellow land, those people work for 30c/hr, but when it comes down to quality, God saves us all !!!
My speaker was made in the Philippines - the same country that produced older Cobra and Uniden CBs that have reputations for higher quality and reliability than those built elsewhere.

It hasn't fallen apart yet, and I've had it opened for the purpose of shortening the cord and didn't notice any obvious quality issues.

    I just use these:

When they are attached together when in storage mode they are great. I just put them inbetween my parking brake level and drivers seat and they are perfect! Plenty loud with windows down and music blasting

His first setup was/is a Cobra Ultra 19 III with the Beltronics external speaker. Both are tucked between the passenger seat and the console in his 2-door mustang. The sound quality, in my estimation, is not any improvement from the stock CB speaker with the single caveat being that the CB speaker is currently flush with the console making it...weak.

He just bought a Uniden 520 and will use a Lil Wil with it.

My experience has been that the stock speaker on my Uniden 578W is leaps and bounds better than my old Cobra 19 III, but that could be because the speaker on the prior is located on the front of the unit. IMO the external speaker can go...but since it's already hardwired...testing is in order?

Update: Rob and I just installed my 520 yesterday and I already seem to get alot better reception. It doesn't have as much static, and doesn't cut in a out as much. Still using the Bel speaker, I went to Radio Shack and the mini speaker Motor On posted looks almost exactly like the little Bel speaker. They recommended a speaker that was a little bigger and had to have its own power it was like $34.

I really wasn't wanting to sped that much, are those speakers just louder or is their a discernable difference in the clarity. I think my issue might not have been with the speaker, I think alot of it was the radio that RobCollins5 sold me.

Cell shack trying to upsell you? I hope you walked out and went to the store the next town over.

The self powered ones have internal amplifiers that add more volume, not clarity the real statistic I can't find listed online for them is "frequency response" over stock any well placed speaker should be louder, and by location equivalent or clearer than the internal unit. I had a spare computer speaker hooked up to my Cobra 29 before I finalized the interior install and I can say there is certainly a clairity improvement over that with the RS speaker, esp when is comes to fine tuning the levels of RF gain vs squelch dance, I never had it quite right until I had a speaker I could hear the differences in. May also want to take a look at Reb's install and find out how he likes what he's using.

I was on the road and needed to buy an external speaker for the cb, so I stopped at a truck stop.
They had a 12w Road Pro for $15.00.
    Works great.

How did you mount the antenna?
Do the new Mustangs still have a fiberglass trunk deck?
I assume it went into the Mustang because of your avatar.

I mounted the Lil Will on the roof of the car, you are right the Mustang has a Fiberglass trunk. Thanks for the info on the speaker sounds like it could be a good option.

I have an 03 Cobra so this is how I mounted the antenna on the trunk deck.
The "Snow Flake" is my ground plane and the clamp mount is grounded to the body with an extra wire I soldiered to the mount.
I'm considering drilling the trunk deck for a more perm mount.
I know OUCH but not doing it yet only thinking, I like being able to remove it if needed.
