Default Adding to the arsenal, part II

Well, I ended up winning an eBay auction for a lightly used Galaxy DX 959 CB. To accompany it, I purchased a Wilson 1000 trunk mount antenna from Sparky's. Those of you who own either one of these pieces, can you tell me what to expect? I am used to using a POS Radio Shack CB which is about 22-23 years old with POS Walmart mag-mount antennas. Any advice and info is appreciated!!!

I would recommend sending in that galaxy to sparky's and having them tune and peak it, it will sound ten times better. Other then that expect to receive from long distances and transmit very clearly.

I have both of those, the CB for a bit over a year and the antenna (with extended whip... disregard that, but I always tell because people who see it in person always ask) for about 2 years.

Both work exceptional. Get it peaked and tuned, get a D104-M6B power-mic for it, and that baby will whistle, the truckers will think you are one of them guaranteed with the power-mic added too.

Make sure you keep the Roger-Beep off most of the time, or truckers will not be pleased with you.

PM me any questions you might have about the set-up if you need.

    Cool!

Regarding the antenna, has anyone needed to trim a Wilson 1000 to get better SWR numbers???

Here's a picture of the rear of my car. Any recommendations as to where on my trunk lid I should place the antenna???

In the middle if possible. The more metal you can get "around" the antenna the better and chances are it will have to be trimmed. I have the Little Wil in the middle of the roof of my Le Sabre and it does a great job there, but I'm pretty sure the 1000 in the middle of your trunk would do great.

trimming really depends on where you put the antenna and the quality of the radio, I got my little wil under 1.5 SWR with no trimming.

I would mount the Little Wil in the center of your roof to get more range.
