    Default CB = Countermeasure

btw - Thanks to you who helped me get the right gear last week.

One thing though, assuming truckers will assist and state the obvious - when a LEO is in sight. Is it your experience that the truckers are running RDs? I drive I-80 through Nevada and very few trucks are speeding, and I suspect do not need to carry RDs. So that leaves the 'hiding' LEOs won't get reported by anyone not having RD on board.

Tomorrow I take my first long distance run with both RD and CB on board. Should be interesting.

I haven't found truckers running RDs openly, once I noticed a car calling out that the car reported at XXX wasn't running his radar, and they'll see when one's got LIDAR up to his eyes ("taking pictures") But truckers are very observant folks, that are good for spotting the hiding places, because if you're running with just a CB you need to see him before he sees you so he can't get a lock, so they know to look around corners and check on ramps and such, which is how they can help call out I/O before you get hit.

I'm sure a few have 2 sneakily hidden STi Drivers that "came installed like that on the truck, I don't know what they do" or a V1 on the sunroof, but that's the exception to the rule by far.

The CB is a countermeasure, so it's a tool, just like the RD and the jammers. It's not guaranteed, it's just a way to talk to rabbits that are usually slower moving, take what you hear about empty roads with a grain of salt, and combine your tools to get the best picture of the road ahead.

I did encounter a trucker in Nevada who was definitely running with a detector. He was going way too fast - nearly as fast as I was doing. I heard my detector alert from a LEO who was cresting the hill about a mile behind us. Within 1/10th of a second after my detector alerted, the trucker was hard on his brakes.

Anyway - I'll post back in a few weeks if anything interesting comes of it all..... or even if not.

If they are running with one they would be smart to be very discrete about it. In some areas the highway patrol has CBs and I'm pretty sure one of the DOT enforcement vans around here has a CB antenna on it.

According to Freebird he's met quite a few drivers who got caught by the Spectre yet still scoffed at the cost of his recommendation of the STi.

I've heard things like "My bird dog spotted him before I did" over the cb. I assume these reports were from truckers. In my experience they're quite good at giving the location of leos, rarely are you surprised. I have had a couple cases where they missed unmarked cars running radar; luckily my own "bird dog" spotted these well in advance. Other than that, if a leo has just gotten on the highway right as you're approaching you may not hear about it. Obviously the more traffic there is the better your chances are of getting good info.

One thing to remember is they give leo locations based on the mile marker signs, so you have to train yourself to pay attention to them. It does you no good to hear smokey's in the middle at the 85 watching westbound if you have no idea where you are. That was something I had to get used to. It's a good habit to have even if you don't have a cb; if you have reason to call for assistance you'll have a rough idea where you are.

Good luck and safe traveling on your trip. I look forward to your report of how it went.

X2 on the mile markers. Another recommendation I have is to remember the markers of the past 2-3 locations so you can hand the information to other truckers. They are more likely to respond to bear report requests if you give one to them first.

I have a realtive that is a driver, he told me they could lose their CDL license if they are caught with a RD. Not sure if that is true or not but I have no reason to doubt him.

The CB should help out so much on your trip, as for me I can't believe I liked the CB so quick, it didn't take much for me to understand how it worked.

X3. Always know your direction and mile markers. It can also help to pay attention to whether or not a weigh station is open/closed and note if DOT is rolling.

Anytime you're near a weigh station you'll always hear a driver ask if the east/west "coop" is open. If they're coming the other way it doesn't really help them but it gives you an opening to ask what they're "Leavin' behind".

It is illegal for them to use radar detectors and jammers. I don't know if it can cost you your CDL, may get you fired and will defiantly get you fined.

Not many run them. Most don't think they work or are willing to spend a lot on a good one. Also they aren't always avoiding LEO because of speed. More often it's their log books they don't want to discuss.
