    Default Antenna mount cap?

I'm bored at my dads and was thinking about what to do for my antenna mount when I have the antenna off for long periods while at school during bad weather to keep dirt and water from pooling and possibly causing corrosion. I have a Wilson silver load antenna mounted in a seam in my rear fender. The product info I found says "3/8" X 24" standard threaded mounting" so is that something I could find a short screw to cap it off with at a hardware store or is that a special thread? I'm stuck with only my iPod touch while I'm traveling because my laptop is broken so I can't effectively look this up myself.
    Thanks in advance

That cap looks just like the one my Wilson 1000 came with.. it won't work.

It sounds like what you need is a quick disconnect. There are basically two kinds:

    External locking mechanism.

    Internal locking mechanism.

The bottom part screws into your mount and the top part onto the antenna. When you want to remove the antenna you just push down, twist, then it'll pop off. If you buy a good one it shouldn't corrode, but even if it does it won't be in the threads where you can't see it so it's better than nothing.

Sounds like a great option, how much do they run? Won't affect signal or swr right?

About $15 or so. They do affect the SWR, as in you'll have to retune your antenna, but you should be able to get it right.
