Default Wilson Short Load whistling in cold weather

Ever since the weather has consistently stayed around 20-30 degrees, I've been struggling to find the source of a whistle in my car that was occurring around 30-45 MPH. It sounded like it was coming from the top of the passenger side B-pillar, so I had been focusing on that area, dismounting and mounting the weatherstripping and visually inspecting it but finding nothing.

Well, today I needed to pull into the garage for an unrelated issue so I had to take the antenna off, and when I drove off I forgot to put it back on and was astonished to find that the noise had vanished!

I'm not sure if the whistling is simply due to the fact that I'm pushing a three foot steel rod through the dense winter air, or if it's because of the plastic matching coil in the middle.

My solution will probably be to just deal with it or run CB-less until it warms up. There's been very little police activity lately and I haven't been venturing off of my familiar routes anyway.

I too have that whistling noise coming from my two window mounted scanner antennas. Even when it was fairly warm out it still would whistle but not at low speeds. The only time i heard them before it got cold out was on the highway. Now i do hear them just about everywhere. But i never had a problem with the Wilson 500 with the 54" whip.
After a while i hardly notice it anymore.

Funny you'd say that, I just remembered that the first time I heard it was when it was maybe 45 degrees out, I found a really nice rabbit and was cruising along at 100 MPH. Now that it's actually cold out I can go that fast and hear nothing but if I hang around 42 MPH or so it whistles like hell.

A good solution would be just cruise at 100 MPH all the time.

And wow 45 degrees would be hot for me right now. This past weekend was brutal.

Tie a short piece of string up on the antenna. Nothing gaudy, just small and short enough to change the wind load.
Slide up/down to tune and/or different string & length.
