CB Squelch Question

This one has not been asked, I checked....

I usually have a CB in the car, and when I have passengers (children) I use an earphone so I don't have to explain the colorful language to the kids.

My last radio, a Uniden 510, had a "pop" when squelch was broken, such that in a headphone it was uncomfortable. The PC 122XL that pre dated it didn't "pop".

I'm looking at spending the huge $35 that either a 510 or a Cobra 19 will cost. Does anyone have any experience with them and a headphone ? I'm not looking to match my Icom 7000, just want squelch to break without "pop" in the headphones.

My wife has a 19 in her truck, I'll go out here in a little bit with some headphones and see if I get the "pop" when the squelch breaks.

EDIT: Yeah it pops when the squelch is broken, rather loudly at that.
