Did you look at the Wilson 1000? Or an NMO style trunk lip mount (antennex, larsen, etc? Take a look through this forum and see what others have used for a set-up

The Wilson 1000 is a fine antenna, and it is available in trunk-lip mount variety as well. I occasionally talk with a local on the CB who is using a Wilson 1000 and he seems to get very, very good range from it. Also, you might consider having the Uniden peaked a little too. It's an easy DIY job if you've got a watt meter, and those units are capable of somewhere between 12 and 15 watts modulation. I've done the mod on mine, so don't hesitate to ask if you need detailed directions. They're a great radio for the money!

NMO mount Antenex CB27 also search Maxrad 2700. Blows the lil wil out of the water and looks 100x better than the big bulky "I'm a CB" Wilson mount, outpreforms most any fiberglass whip setup and no added wind noise.

Is Antenex the only company that offers it with a black whip (CB27)? I can't tell if the MLB2700 from Maxrad is black.

Wow you guys are super helpful ... Started researching and came upon this

    Maxrad setup

    Antenna - MLB2700
    Mount - BMT

Does anyone have pictures of a lip mount and how it connects securely to my trunk? I saw there are set screws, but is there drilling required .. I just want to get my facts right before I make any purchases .. Also does the antenna fasten securely to the lip mount and does this setup rust? Ive had my magnent antenna on for a week and it has rained a couple time and is already starting to rust a little bit (bought from radio shack)

Also thought about getting the same setup but with a BNC connector to run my scanner on .. I dont use the scanner a lot, but it would be nice to quickly disconnect the antenna from the lip mount vs takeing off my (not so trust worthy) magnet mount I am currently using -- I just feel like its going to blow off

    Thanks again everyone!

Found this on a site (theantenneafarm.com -- Hope it helps .. Doesnt say if its offered in black -- Though the 2700 might be the one I get -- I do think black would look great

Whip Material 17-7 PH Stainless steel

Midland 18352 Deluxe Wideband Ham CB Antenna Kit With Trunk Lip Mount, NMO style trunk lip mount, 17 feet of coax with an unprocessed end, PL295 connector, High grade antenna featuring a tapered, heavy duty stainless steel whip, 24KT plated antenna c

The NMO mount is a bit cheap, but its securely mounted to my trunck lip (no drilling). You have to solder the supplied connector onto the coax. The whip is not black, but it could be painted.

The Antenex and Maxrad are the same design, they split and some Maxrad antenna's cheap out internals, but I don't think that's been the case so far, they're both made with the Larid logo. MLB should be black but you can also spray can the antenna like srtga and I both ended up doing.

The NMO preform better hands down and IMO look better.

theantennafarm.com and in the search (top right corner) type "maxrad bmt"

I have to have 15 posts before I can post links .. But see if that works ...
