    Took me long enough. Sorry.

Yes, most radios can be "hacked" (us hams refer to them as being "opened up" or "modified") to transmit more power or transmit outside of the band limits that they were designed for.

Hams do this most often to participate in the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) and the Military Affiliate Radio Service (MARS). These frequencies are not governed by the FCC, so we are not breaking any rules by "opening up" our radios to transmit on these frequencies that sit just above and below the ham band.

CAP now uses narrowband, so it's moot for that purpose these days, but MARS still uses wideband FM, so people still do this.

Take for example, my Kenwood TM-v71a. It is designed to transmit from 144MHz - 148MHz and 420MHz - 450MHz, which is what hams are limited to in the 2m and 70cm bands. I pop the cover off that, pop out a resistor and clip a wire and voila, radio now transmits from 136MHz to 174MHz and 400MHz to 470MHz. But just because I now have the capability, doesn't mean I can go using my ham rig on police/fire frequencies even though I may work for the police or fire department or even FRS/MURS even though no special license is required for FRS/MURS. The radio is not FCC type certified to transmit in that part of the band.

So yes, a 10m radio can be modified to transmit on 11m (CB), but it's technically not legal to do so because it's FCC type certified for 10m (28.300-28.700), not 11m/CB (10KHz increments from 26.965MHz - 27.405MHz except between channels 3&4, 7&8, 11&12, 15&16, and 19&20).

Don't let the FCC catch you and don't ever let on that you are using a 10m ham rig for 11m. Chances are slim that you'll get caught, but I wouldn't risk it. Hey, that's just me...

It must be made to use CB only because there is a jumper for that option.

The problem there was that the CB Shop was pushing the 11 meter radio to anyone. Also open sale of amplifiers to just anyone = illegal.

If you sell the units under the disclaimer you must be a ham to operate this radio, then things would have been different.
