Right, so if one is mounted horizontal, and the other in a vertical orientation. Then it should provide more coverage for overpass shots and also provide equal coverage for horizontal off axis shots. Anywhere that the two diode's patterns overlap, will result in a higher concentration of jamming power.
Nope, it doesn't quite work like that... the 2 emitting diodes are sitting right by each other horizontally, and it doesn't have optics as the receiving side... The bubble on the receiving side has optics... Take apart a head or use an IR camera to see
The pattern you saw there was for the Blinder and the Blinder LEDs are stacked up horizontally, hence that pattern...

Maybe I don't understand then. From what I've seen, the laser diodes don't fan out radially (more so on a certain axis). If you rotated one of the two laser diodes mounted in the head, wouldn't you achieve two different 'fanning' patterns? I'm not concerned about the receiving sensor bubble. Even the site says that one diode is "polarized" horizontally, the other vertically.
edit: this is also why a BMW w/ vertical grills would be a perfect candidate for HP heads. Mounting the heads vertically, yet not sacrificing horizontal coverage.
edit #2: calpalmer, Sorry about the side convo, nonetheless a great installIf I had a MTechII bumper or M3 bumper I'd probably do the same mounting location.

No problem. Fascinating. Looking forward to some testing....
The only change I would of made was to have the controller in another spot maybe near the armrest area.
Yes, but with the little bumps on each of the three buttons, there's no problem working it. Reach is easy. Don't need to watch it to run it. I wanted the total-conceal of being able to tuck the ashtray back in when not in use, or...

is the active cruise interfering at all with any of your countermeasures?
I don't know, for sure. Before final mounting I mocked up the two front sensors and checked the night vision camera view (drivers side). There wasn't a real good way to check the active cruise control without doing the install as power was needed at the CPU, but I did discuss the possibility with my friendly SA at BMW NW. He said he has customers with no issues, albeit with different transponders.
There is no interference when the LIs are passive, to be expected if I understand how they work. The first several times the ACC was controlling speed, however, I had my foot ready to hit the brakes for sure. What I don't know is, if I'm being pinged and the LIs respond, will that affect the ACC? The effect would be to disengage the ACC I'd hope, in which case no problem. Accelerating the ACC would be a problem, but the likelihood of being in traffic with ACC functionality critical, and being pinged at the same time, is small. On open road conditions even in the worst case if I'm pinged I'm shutting the ACC off with the stalk anyway.
What are others' experiences on this?
