Seriously. VR pitches the Valentine as a situational awareness tool as much as a radar detector, and that's fine and dandy. And, as we know, the Belscort units are much more "bearable" compared to the magnesium box.

Here, as with other places, that's attributed to superior "filtering" on K-band with the Bel Vector/RX models, and Escort's Passports. Is it really intelligent design, or is it more along the lines of a lack of detection by the detector? I mean, I love my x50 just as I do the V1, but it's a bit concerning.

I think part of the difference might be some filtering, but as far as intelligent filtering goes, the Valentine should be every bit as capable as the Belscort units. It's just a matter of what filtering MV is willing to implement. I think that the bigger difference is that the V1 tends to pick up more off-axis signals, while the Escort/Bel units have more of a "tunnel vision". Also, the V1 has two antennas, so a person could logically expect a few more falses than you're going to get with only one.

That is because there is no rear attenna...add a read attenna and you will still get those alerts....

But still there is not a huge tunnel vision like people think. I remember I once was approaching a constant on K-band speed sige and i for a half mile alert(0.5) before i got the the sign i look closely and i see the radar gun on the sign is facing the OPPOSITE direction :shock: I continued you get alerted of the sign behind me for 1mile when i reached the peak of the hill.

What makes people think that all the NON-V1 detectors are so bad with rear coverage is passing a radar and the unit going silent so fast. The thing to keep in mind is that if a radar was pointed at you and you pass it, it's now pointed away from the rear of your vehicle, so you're trying to pick up a reflection of a reflection with most detectors. Hope this makes sense.

Heh, I wish one of them would just be given the crown. I still use my x50 and V1 on and off, and it'd be so much easier to just sell one of them or something.

It's gotten to where, on the way home at 1:00am this morning, I was thinking about running another straight cord on the top of the windshield, down the side, and to the cigarette lighter so that I can have both of them neatly mounted high, quite far apart, and test them like Veil did.

I can't tell if that was directed at me, but just for the sake of not starting a flamewar, I wasn't trying to say that one detector is better than another, just explaining why alerts die down so quickly with a single antenna.
