I get adequately accurate GPS reception with my 9500i mounted approximately 1.2 inches below the top edge of my windshield. If you use the hardwire kit plus a snap-on choke to turn the hardwire cord into an extended antenna for GPS, then I have found that my 9500i stores GPS lockout data very accurately (within 15 feet of where I parked and then locked out a false).
I don't have any space above my RVM. I used your method and installed the 9500i to the left of my RVM roughly where CJR installed his ... maybe a bit lower. I used clear colored Superlocks. My windshield is really curvy, so I had to fiddle with the Superlock engagement so that the 9500i would be level. Haven't been back on the road yet, but standing outside my car, it's pretty hard to see the 9500i from the front of the car now as it barely sticks out under the factory tint.
Can you explain a little bit about this "snap-on choke"? What is it, and how do you install it? I don't have the Escort hardwire cord. I am actually using the hardwire kit that came with my V1. Thanks for your help!
