What types of mounts are there in the market for 9500i?

Other than the Countryjoycraft mounts, what other non-factory mounts are there in the market for the 9500i? I really don't like the windshield mount that came with the 9500i. The front of my 9500i is in contact with the windshield, and everytime I run over a bump the 9500i bounces against the windshield. For $450-500, I would have hoped that Escort would have included something a little sturdier. I've been searching around for other windshield mounts, but haven't found anything. Any ideas? Thanks!

I made my own and leaned the right side against the RVM.

Because the 9500I is so long it tends to bounce if not mounted perfect, especially if your not using a hard wire cord.

The 9500i is long, but it's the way and shape of the Escort mount that annoys me. Instead of having a mount that is firmer and longer, the Escort mount relies on having the front of the 9500i pushed up against the windshield. That is fine and dandy if I am driving in a smooth road, but when you drive over little bumps the 9500i shakes and the front keeps hitting the windshield and making noises. At least Escort should have made some cushy material for those two front mini-pillars that rest against the windshield. I am thinking of maybe installing something there, but then it's probably going to make the 9500i point downwards to the hood of my car. The V1 mount is much better than the Escort. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, the suction cups on the V1 mount that I have are horrible. I've only owned my V1 for less than a month, and one of the suction cups is dying on me already. Sigh ... Oh yeah, I do have my RD's hardwired. I just think that for the $$$ that we pay for the 9500i (and V1), we should get top quality mounts along with the top quality detectors. Ok, enough venting.

So any other mounts out there? Thanks!

Hi Armandius,

If you don't mind going for a more permanent mounting solution by discarding the suction cups, check out how I mount my Belscort RDs. This solution ends up keeping some pressure applied to the front tits on the RD so that it doesn't bounce around at all. And there is no chance that your 9500i can fall if the suction cups ever fail.

Thanks Mem-Tek! I will try that. Do you still get good GPS reception on the 9500i? And does placing your 9500i behind the tint strip affect its detection abilities?

I get adequately accurate GPS reception with my 9500i mounted approximately 1.2 inches below the top edge of my windshield. If you use the hardwire kit plus a snap-on choke to turn the hardwire cord into an extended antenna for GPS, then I have found that my 9500i stores GPS lockout data very accurately (within 15 feet of where I parked and then locked out a false).

I have my 9500i placed right at the bottom edge of my car's tint strip where the shade of the tint strip fades to clear. The tint strip in my car doesn't affect radar reception at all. I tested that. I have found that the very slight residual shading from my car's tint strip somewhat shades my 9500i's front laser sensor against intense overhead sunlight, and that this seems to improve its ability to detect laser.

Hi Armanius,

Sounds like your just left of RVM install is pretty neat. Post a pic if you can.

Its really late at present, but tomorrow or Sunday I will post stuff and a link or two about the snap-on choke.
