That doesn't seem normal to me. No gradual ramp up like I'd normally expect.

Check the settings on you r V1. It's almost as if there's some muting going on.

Does it act the same in "A" mode?

I never judge me RD by those speed signs, you never know the condition of the radar guns in there--some worn out, out of tune junkers they just slap in there.

I have passed some that display speed but my V-1 was quite, others like yesterday I picked up a K-band speed sign over a mile away over a slight hill--very good pickup for the V-1 really

Have you tried using it without the window tint?

The sundden alert is just like the Ka guard letting go.
The arrow's are normal man all it's telling you is that radar is all around. Speed sighs are not police radar do not worry. Now drink the dam water.

    Thanks for the many responses...

Just thought I'd let you guys in on some more of my findings. I gave V1 a call but the woman I spoke with didn't transfer me to a tech as I asked. She said the arrows issue was normal as I have seen from posts here, no biggie. As for the detection range, she said I should probably send it in to get it checked.

In the meantime, I re-ran my little test to see if the same thing would happen and it was exactly the same. The Pre POP 1.8 that my dad has responded much much better... Here I think "Something's wrong, I'll send the unit in if this keeps up."

However, on the second pass today, the alert distance was a bit better. I went back a third time (total of 6, 2 passes to separate the detectors) but this time turning KA guard off as GHZ1 suggested on my 3.826.

    That was it.

The Ka guard was keeping it "filtered" eventhough no filtering was supposed to be done on KA in "little L" mode. And my luck, since then I have encountered 2 KA troopers and with the false alarm guard off i got great range. I'll have to see how this works out with highway falses that I get. I'll keep everyone updated.

wp3gi: With regards to the window tint, as soon as I got the unit, I tested range on constant on X, K and KA by traveling around at various times and then switching vehicles. The tint does not seem to have a major affect on range. I'm also begining to think this might cause some of the arrow issues... Any thoughts? It does change the range but only by a few feet.

Holla: The sign is BRAND new, just popped up. The original reason for my taking video was to show KA range with the V1 on new Speed signs. I know someone posted pictures to prove they existed, I wanted to show some range.

Thanks for reading I appreciate all the help.. I'll keep you guys updated if anything else happens.

On a side note: Drive Safe, too many crazy drivers out there (i.e. the video, passing me on the right )

Ka guard has NOTHING to do with small "l" large "L" thats for X and K band only. Ka guard work on... you guess it Ka only. If you turn that off you will get a whole heap of false alerts on Ka from other "Junk" Detectors. Dude keep it turn on forget about that dam Ka speed sign (which is not Police radar eg common police radar 33.8 ghz 34.7 ghz 35.5 ghz your speed sign may be something like 33 ghz even, so the V1 is computing it as a false and will not report it until it gets tooooo strong then it lets go to be on the safe side.
I would strongly suggest you do a search on Ka guard. People like Jim has posted amazing info on this

Rock on have fun with that thing better than a car stereo i say 8)

ghz1: I am well aware of the different modes and their ability to only filter X and K. Ka guard only handles Ka, I know. I disabled that guard and it changed the behavior on that particular sign. It is remaining on. I tried it for about 3 miles on the highway today... impossible to deal with. I have done some more reading about frequency response of the V1 and the frequencies used by speed signs as well as some reading on the drift tendencies of such guns.

I am not concerned with the speed sign but rather the performance of my V1. So far so good.. I only turned the KA guard off to see if that was was filtering the non-police KA signal; and that was it. I'll see if I find a LEO using Ka in the near future and I will report the results. After doing some more reading on signal drift and the conditions of some of those speed signs (however new they may be), I have reassured myself that it is not something to worry about. I won't know if the unit is operating correctly until I encounter another LEO with Ka. Until then.... everything is cool
