Just got a used V1 need some assistance
Hey,
I just got a used V1 from a friend of mine and I have a couple quick questions. The up arrow on the unit does not work... I was wondering how I go about getting that LED replaced and if it is going to cost me very much... The second question I have is what sounds correspond to which band I have a V1.7 and it does not come with the visual band identification so I am wondering if anybody can help me out...

If you can, I would upgrade but it will cost over $200
Yeah... from what I've read this one will do me fine... I mean it'll be better than my cobra I'm sure... all I really want is to get that arrow working and to know what tones mean what....
Might be better to throw that one on ebay and grab you a new one--or else you are going to have to send it to VR to get the arrow fixed and it you want the latest update--its going to cost ya 200+.
But in reality you wil pay the 200-225 or whatever and they are going to give you a brand NEW detector, they are not going to worry about the one you gave them.! So you will get a 400 detector for 200+/- what you paid for the 1.7
Why not just get the remote display - it should work on there
so I can't have somebody with soldiering experience open it up and put a new led in there???? this is going to cost way too much money... where do I hide the detector to have a remote display anyway?

Well you don't hide it. its just that no one behind you or beside you at night can read it. You could probably open it up yourself and solder it. It really wouldn't take much.Originally Posted by RonNorth

Dee Doo Dee Doo = laser if the laser upgrade had been performed to your V1.7.
As for the repair if the parts are available I would guess $50 but if I were you I would call VR and confirm what it will cost. I have heard cases where VR had repaired V1.7's to the original customers without cost. I cant say this will be the case for you.
I've got the 1.7 and it keeps on a tikin and kicking radar's butt. I plan on keeping it until major changes in detection techniques or new bands open up.
If Mike decides to improve the display to a format where I can visually see the band (alphanumeric) instead of trying to determine which of the nano leds are lit up then I will upgrade then as well. It's a great detector but I would not want to live without the arrows.
