Ya there may have not been radar but through that one out of your mind because there was he hit the other cars as my wife was the first car in that row with my x-50 and it alerted here to k band so yes they did get shot...

Ok, that's an entirely different story. That's why I was asking. In that case you should send it in to be checked. So your wife got a K band alert, in a different car ahead of you, when you did not get an alert? If yes, definitely send it in to be checked out. Be sure to describe in a written note exactly what happened.

More trouble with 3.851 units, not good. If you have a confirmed hit from your wife, then there's an isssue. The last time I encountered instant-on K it happened just like you described. I was the last car in a line of about 3 or 4, all moving about ~8 over. We round a bend and there was the leo. No warning, just full K pointed straight at me. It was profiling as I was the only "sporty" looking car in the group. I had some time so I went by again. No alert. I parked down the road, just around the bend to test the V1. In the span of about 10 minutes and probably a dozen cars, the leo triggered the gun only twice. In this case even a fully functional V1 is no match for a skilled LEO with a switch.

Is it behind the tint? My guess is a metallic windshield/band on the front, try the v1 in another car!

TO clear a few things up i recently took a trip from fla to mich and i went through ohio on i-75 and went through dayton which is why i thought it was ironic that is where sethy is from cause i had just went through there...second there is not tint it is monted middle of the windsheild there is no metal as it is only a 99 cavileir i was in... and yes i already debunked that thought to as i then tried it in my 01 explorer and still had very limited range... so it isn't the windsheild guys.. its the detector why is it so hard to beleive they make new junk every day... just because its new doesn't mean its right i mean you could get a brand new cd player and it could act up tommarow not saying that it is v1's fault thats why i sent it back in to get it looked at today instead of just calling and asking for my money back and getting the sti driver instead...

Well...I didn't read everyone's response so this may have already been said.

When I first bought my V1 I wasn't very impressed either. My RX65 seemed to have much better Ka detection. Which in some cases esp on 35.5 it does. Anyway...I thought the rear antenna picked up better too but if you think about why it all makes sense. You are moving away from a radar source and it is pointed in the direction you are moving...the V1 has already picked the radar up. There for the V1 doesn't need to find the source...it's already locked.

I just read my paragraph and boy is it confusing....do you know what I mean though? When a V1 is locked on to an alert it is easier to keep that alert so to speak.

As far as poor performance on Ka band. Yea...I can agree the V1 isn't the top performer esp around corners. I know test results show the V1 perform the best on Ka band on 1 out of 3 freqs....but this test was conducted on a straight road with the radar gun pointed diagonally arcoss the road...doesn't prove much for over hills and around corners...and well...real life

2 out of 3 isnt bad. Any brands other than V1 that perform less than 2 out of 3?

I do not understand your question. Nevermind. The V1 is now the winner 1 out of 3 freqs on Ka band. What I am saying is the GOL Jan Test were conducted differently then actual real world situations which could (IMO) make it unrealiable

So you observed he was doing instant-on, which to me would indicate the V1 did it's job, and you did receive random alerts!

Instant-on is however a threat in it's own regard, and no RD can "anticipate" instant on. The V1 IMHO performs just as well as other RD's I own. Now "quick triggering" could be another matter, if that might have perhaps entered into your encounter. Usually this is not a consideration in moving radar when operated in instant-on mode however, as it takes some time for the officers radar to sort out the patrol cars own speed, before it can lock on to yours, due to clutter (ghosting) and on-coming vehicles. ( a couple seconds or less)

radar does not have to know the speed of the car it is in.... it use's wave delfection to get your speed.... the speed of the car it is in does not matter...... in old school radar maybe cuase it when by distance like laser does the new radar works different buy sending out 2 waves the first one hit your car and bounces back, mean while your car is still moving forward then the second wave hits and bounces back, now the waves are a tiny bit closer then when they was sent. the radar messures this and gets a speed
