    Default Refurb redux

Just an update on my recent order of a refurb:

    Good news:

Detector in good shape, fingerprint on lens is only small flaw found (easily cleaned off).

    Latest 3.851 software.

    New cups and wiring.

    $359 price plus ship.

    Bad news:

Definitely not a brand new set --
Manual had small creases on corners that indicate it was used.
Detector had been programmed -- P showed up on initial turn on indicating that it had been changed from factory defaults.

Delay in shipping. Got the 'don't have one in stock' message on my order. Took 5 days for them to actually ship.

Seems to work well. Need to adjust to new alerts from my 8500 (had for 5 years).

Maybe I was unlucky to get a used one or maybe they are all used. Just don't be disappointed if the one you order is not brand new. Some on this board insist they all are new.

They are "like new". If they're scratched up they'll usually replace the lenses.

As for being programmed, are you sure it was a "P" with flashing lights and not the "P...o...P" indicating POP mode is on?

If you go through the programming options and want to set them all back to factory defaults, make sure they're all set to "up" (front) arrow.
If I'm passing you on the right, YOU are in the wrong lane!

If speed kills, how come I'm still alive?

I think the "P" means Pass. Well you get what you pay for. You pay for a refurb unit, you can't expect it to be brand new. But I'm sure it will work perfectly.

Just to clarify. I'm not complaining as I did knowingly order a refurb and it seems to work just fine.

Just wanted people to be realistic about ordering a refurb and not expect a new one.

Do you get the 30 day return thing w/ a refurb or is sold and noo return - only the 1 year warranty?

Cuz I'm thinking ordering refurb, but if it doesn't meet my expectations, I would happily send it back pay an extra 40 dollars and get a new one.

Yes same rules apply, you have a 30 day return policy, I sent a returned unit back last year, first to repair for a check up then told them to keep it.
But on another note I don't think that VR would take too kindly to someone returning one for another new one as it appears that they are working the 30 day return policy to their benefit as then you are using their units for 60 days.

Well actually, I would be keeping the new one unless they somehow decided to release something that would cost me an extra 75 bucks for the upgrade

Keep in mind that VR's 30-day FREE return is a once-and-done opportunity, assuming that the unit isn't defective. I did a 30-day return after testing the V1 a couple of months ago. When I recently purchased a refurb V1, they told me that since I already used the policy once, it would cost me $50 restock fee to return a non-defect unit.

Perhaps GROB actually got a real refurb. I checked my "refurb" fully. There wasn't a fingerprint or blemish on it or any of the materials, including the manual. Who knows? I wouldn't assume that everyone receives a new unit, but I do think that some might. Or, the returns are just so well cared for during their use (I took very good care of my test V1 while I had it) that they were "next to perfect" when returned to VR.

Well when you think about it.

You order new, you have it 20 days - new hardware comes out - its going to cost you 75 dollars, but the restock is 50. So return it and order a new one with the newest hardware. yeah - its cheap and its dirty - but it saved you 25 bucks? I'm sure from tehre you've pissed off the company and you can prolly consider anything they might due to help you - is never going to happen.
