Default Let's Calm Down and Behave

I'd like to propose a moratorium on insult hurling and emotional acting-out. I don't believe the behavior demonstrated in the past few months has been indicated or appropriate and intend to be more vigilant in excising offensive threads. These threads are counter-productive for the following reasons, amongst others:

At one point in time, Mr. Valentine participated in this forum. On other forums, it is evident that he uses his own products, so do you folks really think V1 is deliberately shipping defective designs. I doubt it.

All this B/S about flashing at home fails to consider that a radar detector is not a video card. There are a number of analog components, reactive traces, op-amps, ADCs, etc. that have offsets and coupling phenomena that require more than flash and pray.

Also, do we really want to kill the V1's resale value due to impatience?

Good one Bill, and I completely agree. It's obvious that v1 is having some problems with their last revision, I'm sure that they'll get it straightened out. I was one of those who received an "E" message, I sent it in and they fixed it (hopefully). What more can we ask a company to do.

I think that some of the threads have really gotten out of hand. If people are really that pissed at v1 and that unhappy with their rd, they can very easily get most of their money back by selling their rd on ebay and then buying which ever rd they think is better.

Maybe eBay will be flooded with v1's now, the price will drop dramatically so I can stock-up on them, wait till this wave of v-1 bashing stops and the price rises again, and not need to worry about finding an income source for this winter!! I'll just sell all the v-1's I got on eBay for cheap.

    Yeah, yeah, thats the ticket!!

Why did Mike V quit participating in this forum? Maybe he got tired of the trash talking, I can only speculate. If done right, manufacturer participation in the forum can be a good thing for the customer and the manufacturer. You do need to have a thick skin if you are going to particpate as the mfr. though. BTW, I never saw anyone from BEL or Escort participate in the forums, ever. Having Michael B from Whistler around is cool. Maybe my next backup should be a Whistler????

Bill makes a great point about an RD not being like a video card! And he told us very accurately, of the reasons why!

The only "participation" that Mike V had on this forum was about two posts...that's it. That's not really participation in my eyes

    Well, it sure beats lurking
The way I see it, Valentine Research treats customers very well. It's just that the expectations of people in this forum are high, i.e. we expect to all be treated the same, independent of situation. The V1 is a boutique product competing with mass-marketed products of varying quality and performance. We all want better Ka performance and fewer falses, but the truth is that these metrics are mutually exclusive w/o exquisitely meticulous fine tweaking.

Relative to Belscort: The techs at Escort do read this forum and have offered well-reasoned replies to issues I've brought up. The X-Band performance of the X-50 was improved in the 2006 model in response to feedback from here, I believe.

I agree Bill. I cannot think of another big issue with V1 in the last 16 years and I believe having owned all of the top three that there engineering and customer service is still the best. I have enough patience to wait out this issue and have confidence in buying the V1 in the near future. I think we, as a group of radar fanatics, want the best and latest and greatest and don't always have patience when things don't go as expected. The V1 has a big reputation to uphold that it has rightfully earned over the years, but that makes it that much easier for those who do not like the V1 for whatever reason to scream even louder at a time like this. Let's all relax and breathe deeply and get ready for the next round of tests from GOL with hopefully a newer revision from V1. ops: ops:

BTW I have an rx65 now so do not think I am a zombie.

I've always enjoyed his posts. With the demise of Uniden, Whistler is the mass-market product of choice, IMHO.
