Default Just bought a V1 and looking for hints and tips.

Hi everyone, noob here and I just bought a V1. I live in NOVA, northern va, and I just wanted to see if there are any tips or hints I should know. This is my first detector ever and I have the concealed display installed no later than this Thursday. I also was wondering if I should get a laser jammer or some other kind of protection because I do live in VA. Thank you all and looking forward to reading some more threads and starting more of my own. I also want to know where should I put in rear or front? I am going to put in in my Saturn SL (i know its kinda hard not to laugh but please don't lol) and I want to know if I hardwire it can I uninstall it if I ever want to?

My V1 is located above and left of my rvm.If you can afford a laser jammer than great. The more protection the better. I would go with a blinder. I dont know about your hardwired question never really experimented with it.Just make sure you mount yours high but below your windsheilds tint.

Thank you for the info it is really useful!!! Should I get a blinder m20 or m40??? windshield tint none I am actually getting a new windshield because the one I got has a foot long crack in it from some rock, I was so pissed that happened. But surprising to me I have no tint on my windshield, there is no part of my windshield that get darker as you get closer to the top of the windshield. Should I get a new windshield with that sort or blue line of tint???

Id get the 40 if you can afford it but the 20 will work well too. And with the windsheild the less tint or darkness the better because then u can mount your v1 higher!

Drive around for a while in "A" mode and you'll start to learn where your false alarms are located. Then try out little "l" and big "L" modes to see the difference.

Go find a speed sign and see how far away your V1 detects it. On the k-band speed signs around here, I can sometimes get 3 miles of warning.

When you hardwire your V1, you're basically using the included wiring harness and tapping into a hot (positively charged) wire and the grounding the harness to your car's frame. Once you find a hot wire, it's actually very easy. To uninstall, you'd simply disconnect the connection to the hot wire and the ground and take the wiring harness out. If the hardwire installation is fairly involved and you sell your car, just remove your V1 and you could leave the wiring harness connected under the dash. It won't hurt anything. Of course, you'd need to buy a new harness to hardwire your new car.

Since you're in Virginia, you need to think about a cop detecting your V1 with a Spectre RDD. Someone from Virginia could probably give you more information, but some people have reported that the cop may confiscate your detector. You really don't want a $400 detector taken away. So, it might not be a bad idea to pick up a cheap, crappy detector off of eBay. If you get pulled over, hide your V1 quickly (practice this first) and if the cop asks for your RD, give him the eBay special. If he's asking for your RD, you're probably looking at a ticket anyway. Might as well save your V1.

Go read a bunch of the posts by StealthJamal. He lives in VA and has a lot of experience in these areas.

Thank you all I really thank you for reading this and answring back I will search false alarms and things like that and I will get a cheap ebay rd just in case, but I knpow people who have been pulled over like last month in va because of his RD but the cops can't take it from you they just give you a $90 fine and they write down your serial #. If anyone can explain more about this "A","i", and other modes I would greatly appreciate it.

Open your manual that came with the V1 for the full details or go to Valentine's website. Briefly, "A" mode is All Bogeys. That means, if the V1 detects radar, it's going to alert you. The V1 doesn't filter anything out and it displays everything in A mode.

Little "l" mode is "Logic" mode. In this mode, X band bogeys that the computer doesn't think are threatening are alerted in the "muted" volume. When the strength increases to where the computer think it represents a threat, you get a regular X-band alert.

Big "L" is "Advanced Logic" mode. In this mode, bogeys that the computer thinks are NOT threats are not displayed at all. However, if the strength gets strong enough, they are displayed like a regular alert. To try this out, go for a drive down a commercial area with lots of restaurants, Wal-Mart, Home Depot, etc. All of these places have burglar alarms which will set off your X and K bands. Drive through the area in "A" mode and the bogey counter will climb like crazy and the V1 will be blasting out alerts.

Then, switch to Big "L" mode and drive through again. Many of the alerts will show up on the bogey counter and strength meter, but they won't sound an alert, or you'll get an alert on the muted volume, rather than full volume.

If those last paragraphs don't make sense (bogeys, bogey counter, switching different modes, etc.) you really need to read through the manual. The V1 has some interesting options and capabilities. You've paid a lot for it, so you might as well understand how to fully use it.

    Nikk,
A is the "all bogeys" mode. V1 will alert to all signals recieved immediately. l, or little l (logic mode), is a city mode of sorts, for x band only. V1 will report all signals immediately, but x band signals are reported visually only up to 4 or 5 segments on the strength meter. Big L, advanced logic, all signals recieved are deferred to the computer onboard the V1 and the computer decides which sigs are real and which are not. X band alerts will not be reported until they reach 4 or 5 segments UNLESS the threat is real. It will then be reported immediately. I have a version 3.826 and in the Big L mode, it will filter some K band falses as well. Long winded but hope this helps. Scott

Since you are in Va keep it well hidden. At night time with the conceal displaythere is no problem. If you get caught with it, they may or may not take it from you depending on the time of the month for the officer. If they do take it you can get it back. They run mostly laser and Ka with the occasional K. To help with laser get a laser shield and veil, roy has them. If you have the money get a jammer but remember they are illegal in Va also.
